We stayed at the Smeraldo in May, 2012, and the hotel is located 1 block from the Campo de Fiori and 5 minutes walk to Piazza Navona. Also walkable distance to Vatican, Trastevere, Pantheon. We had the room with a balcony, so it made up for the smallness of the room. The shower is quite small, but it is expected.... More

Worst: bathroom showers ridiculously small. Hotel has many dark tiny rooms...and a few larger airy rooms. Look before you accept. Best: location is the best feature of this overpriced hotel.

Hotel Smeraldo is on a narrow street near the busy and delightful Campo de Fiore, Trastevere, and the sites of rome. It is not far from the bus stop at Piazza Argentina. The rooms are clean and while small, they are efficient. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good place for student groups. Nearby restaurants are good.

Good value and excellent location. Hotel was very clean, helpful if not enthusiastic staff, good free wi-fi, basic breakfast. Rooms were ok but what should be expected for this class of hotel. My only complaint was the hot water or lack there of. Plenty of hot water in the evening but want to take a hot shower in the morning... More

Actually stayed here twice, my first two nights in and my last night out. Hotel Smeraldo had a great location. The Campo Di Fioro (open market and plenty of places to eat) was only about 2 minutes away and it was equidistant from the Vatican and the Colosseum. For those used to American standards, the room is quite small. The... More

This hotel is in a great location as it is possible to walk to all the sites within 20 to 30 minutes. The rooms were very clean especially the immaculate bathroom. The shower was on the small and almost impossible to move in once the door was closed. We were in the annex which was in the next building to... More

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Smeraldo for 5 nights in early March. The location was great; we were able to walk almost everywhere (only a 20 minute walk to Vatican City!) and there are numerous restaurants within walking distance. The staff were helpful and courteous. The breakfast was one of the the best we had during our 3... More

My family stayed at the hotel Smeraldo for 5 nights this last May. The location is perfect, close to all of the tourist attractions yet two minutes from the Campo di Fiori and the fabulous market there. The staff was pleasant enough and the place was quite clean and seemed well cared for. The breakfast was fine and always well... More

The location is perfect, the rooms are clean and some of them quite nice, some of them with balconies -- and there is a nice roof garden with a fantastic view. Two years ago my daughter and I stayed there in January and our only complaint was the lack of hot water in the shower in the morning. Brrrr! This... More
