In my experience Gaybed was an inexpensive, no-frills room in a pre-war building... I rented a bicycle on Augustrasse so getting around wasn't a problem; my room faced a courtyard and the birds were chirping, it was pretty peaceful. Apparently this part of Berlin wasn't damaged too heavily in the war; the old buildings in the neighborhood are fascinating if... More

A friend and I both booked for 7 nights at the last minute and payed up front with Paypal. We booked 2 rooms costing 560 euros. When we arrived we were taken not to the advertised address but around the corner to another building up on the 2nd floor. When we entered we asked where the kitchen, bathrooms etc were. We... More

The guy running/cleaning the place is an absolute Hitler. At the time, no hot water was available. when contacting the Chinese guy cleaning the place, he was extremely rude, shouting in violent broken English: 'You don't like, you get out'. There was NO kitchen available. and absolutely no explanation why. The Chinese guy just decided to not make the kitchen... More

(+) Rooms were quite large and spacious, quite old but clean. Breakfast was sufficient, did not have any problems running out of things like other reviewers mentioned , but maybe this is because of the fact that we were the only people in the entire floor during our entire stay (8 nights) Price was rational (-) Location. you need to... Staying at Gaybed was a great part of my trip; I was advised on places to go, things to see, bars to check out and more. The staff/owners were extremely kind, and it felt as if i had a personal concierge at checkin. I highly recommend this B&B and will definitely book again.

PROS: - Good price - Large bedroom with table and chair. Cabinet and hanger are available. Our room has a window facing a small garden. - Decent breakfast. Bread, fruit jam, nutella (chocolate-peanut jam), tea, coffee, milk, cheese, all self-service. No microwave and dishwasher. Hand-wash everything after use. - Good location: 5 minutes by Bus 123 to hauptbahnhof (main train... More

This place was so cheap I was worried it would be a real dive. I agree with most of the other reviews. We paid 45 euros/night for a double room. It was enormous room, quite comfortable. Bathroom down the hall. Main trouble was getting water to stay at correct temperature, changing from too hot to too cold (I had this... More

I stayed at Gaybed and Breakfast for three nights in July 2007. The directions they gave me were easy to follow and I got to their place in no time. The room was large, spacious and clean. The bathroom was also clean, although the shower is a bit hard, since it was low and got the floor a bit splashed... More

I shouldnt expect to much from a cheap place like this gaybed. If you want to just sleep in a cheap bed to sleep and not to worry about overly ripe fruit (black banana and rotten apple, amongst cereal, nutella, kraft cheese and frozen bread) and that you have to squat to have decent shower, this is the place. Believe it or not. I just spent 60 Euro for 4 nights from Jan.15th to 19th 2007! For a 18 sqm large room! Double bed. Breakfast was included. Clean and central. And all this for only 15 Euro the night!!! Of course you can not aspect a 5-Star service for this little money! But I was NOT disappointed about the... More
