Before going to Chamonix and staying the the Vagabond I read some of the previous reviews and thought: 'This seems ok, what can have changed since the reviews were written last year?'. A lot seems to have changed. Many others say the place was clean and warm. It most certainly was not. The bedrooms were freezing at night, and very... More

We stayed in Le Vagabond with a group of 4 friends during our annual ski mountaineering trip. The "Gite" (hostel) is a good place to stay if you are budget conscious and don't mind bunk beds and shared rooms. The building has character, and the stone walls suggest that the building is hundreds of years old. The views from the... More

Wasnt sure what to expect but 6 of us took a dorm and were perfectly comfortable. The bar serves cheap beer for two hours every night as well as live sport. The staff are friendly and the food, included in the price we paid., was excellent value. Would 100% recommend to those travelling to Chamonix with a strict budget.

A great place for the cost conscious traveler or person who wants to meet fellow people. a kind of chalet for those with less pennies or who hate children!! Stayed in the private ensuite room which despite having very limited headroom (it is a converted attic space) was really top notch for a hostel. Only banged my head 3 times... More

The gite is easy to find, with the centre of Chamonix, just 5 minutes walk away. The girls working there are very helpful and the bar downstairs has an amazing array of drinks to be had. A lot of the locals are regulars which is always a good sign. The bedroom we were in was very clean and beautifully decorated,... More

I really wanted to like this place. When we walked in, there was a buzzing atmosphere in the bar with music playing, skiers drinking/dancing and people tapping away on their laptops. However, overall this place just isn't good value and there's no-one properly managing it. The young kids left in charge told us that the owner was on a beach... More

A two night stopover I visited Chamonix with a buddy to grab some end of season riding, arrived mid morning parked up in the Gite le Vagabond car park, (reception closed until PM) rode for the day and arrived back at about 6ish for a beer and to check in, all good ! a bit more expensive than advertised but... A couple of friends and I headed to Chamonix for a long weekend's late season skiing. We were offered half board only and the prices were higher than they currently are on their website, something like 17 for a bed and 38 for half-board. Meaning they placed a value of 20 euros on dinner and breakfast. The latter is a... More

Stayed here for 3 days with a group of friends. We stayed in one of the group rooms which was 44 euros a night, on assumption if food wasnt up to much we'd gladly eat out. We arrived around 9pm the first evening and was told that dinner had been put aside for us, much appreciated. The girls who worked... More
