We stayed only one night, but it was so peaceful out in the country. The setting could not have been better and the owners were so friendly. This is a country chateau with fields, gardens and plenty of charm. The morning light was stunning. Our cameras could barely keep up with the vignettes and the pastoral scenery. The breakfast was delicious,... More

We stayed here one night on our way further south and glad we did, it is a wondefull old place full of character, set in a beautiful location. As long as you expect old french charm and all the rural life that goes with it you wont be disapointed. Where else can you go and have breakfast prepared by a... More

Greeted by cheery owner who tried hard with his english. Shown our room, (up spiral staircase so not good if walking a problem). Showed us around several rooms in this wonderful chateau and told us all about the paintings on the walls, the library and the chapel. Room was clean and comfortable, shower worked well with plenty of hot water.... More

I do not like writing bad reviews especially as the hosts whose house this is are nice people. When we arrived the exterior was a portent of things to come walls cracked rendering missing and woodwork in need of paint and replacement. We were shown to our room on the top floor by climbing a spiral staircase with no handrail... More

My husband and I stayed one night in this very nice but very tired Chateau The Chateau would be very beautiful if restaured. The owners have put a lot of love in the gardens as they are gorgeous, but the chateau and the chapel need some serious TLC. We understand a lot of money is required but the family should... More

We stayed here in July 2012 on our way down to La Rochelle. The Chateau was a little difficult to find, but I am glad we did. A very warm welcome from Nicole and her charming husband. It is a lovely old house with extensive grounds. This is not the most modern place you will have stayed in, but we... More

Our first disappointing booking via trip advisor, the Chateau must once have been a delight today it is a very run down place, we booked la chambre aux abeilles( the room of the bees) it is in need considerable upgrading. We had originally booked for two nights but cancelled the second night after we arrived. The gardens have great potential and are... My husband and I stayed two nights in October 2011. Nicole and Regis make you feel like you are at home not in a hotel. The castle is amazing and the gardens are beautiful. Thoroughly recommend this place. Nicole speaks English very well and will show you around the castle and the grounds. Will definitely be back.

My husband and I stayed at the Chateau De Montriou for one night in July 2011. We found the Chateau online so I guess you never know what you are getting until you get there. We were extremely happy with the Chateau especially because it was our only French Chateau experience. We were greeted by Nicole when we arrived and... More

What a wonderfu place to stay! Nicole is as warm and kind as they come, and her husband Regis is the friendly eccentric castle keeper, taking care of the maintenance of the castle. Nicole speaks English very well, and spent quite a bit of time showing us around and being the most gracious host you could ask for. The castle... More
