Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The house is old and full of character, decorated beautifully, accurately depicted in the website. Everything has been updated so modern amenities are all fine. Host is responsive, gracious, hardworking. Decadent, elegant breakfast in the dining room. Rooftop rooms are charming and can accommodate children, though the beams on floors and ceilings can be tricky. Downstairs rooms are like a fairy tale.

Attractive period house in central Caen with parking. Welcoming owner who serves excellent breakfasts. Our room was one of the smaller ones but was comfortable with good bathroom facilities. Very enjoyable stay.

The Property is a large house with spacious rooms and attention to detail. We stayed in the garden suite with direct access to a pretty garden. The breakfast is excellent delivered in a beautiful dining room overlooking the garden. The proprietor, Elizabeth is charming, informative and helpful. When we return to Caen, we would look forward to returning to La Maison de Famille. The location is a stones throw from restaurants and some historic buildings.

Room Tip: The garden suite was very nice. Our friends had a room on the 3rd floor which was also very good.

This is a very fine guest house in the centre of Caen, within easy reach of many restaurants, shops, the Chateau and other attractions. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the decor is in keeping with the period of the house, while providing all modern conveniences. If you stay in the ground floor apartment, you'll also have access to the gorgeous hidden garden. Elizabeth was the perfect hostess - she couldn't have been nicer and her breakfasts were delicious!

We recently stayed four nights at this beautiful bed and breakfast in a grand old French villa, which we learned was originally host’s, Mrs. Valognes, childhood home. The spacious and comfortable rooms were tastefully furnished with antiques and decorated with the family’s photos, knickknacks, paintings, and books, which made the stay even more special. The four poster bed in our room was comfortable and the bathroom was new and well equipped. We also very much appreciated that secure parking was available on the property. Each morning began with a delicious breakfast that included fresh orange juice, fresh fruit, a selection of freshly baked bread, rolls, and sweet rolls, yogurts, jams, and butter, as well as your choice of coffee or tea. The location itself was perfect, with a variety of restaurants within a short walk while many historical sites were also still within a reasonable walking distance. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone looking for a comfortable and authentic French experience especially since Mrs. Valognes is so warm and welcoming.

We stayed 4 nights in the Garden Suite. Another couple our party stayed in the Baldaquin Suite upstairs. It was a delightful experience for all of us. Caen is a great hub for touring Normandy by car. The property is extraordinary — with a lovely garden and free/secure car parking in the heart of the old city of Caen, near shops, bakeries, and weekly market. We were able to use the Garden Suite kitchen to assemble meals from nearby bakeries and markets. The owner, Mdm Valognes, helped me to successfully re-route my daughter’s train travel following her arrival into Paris-CDG on a rail strike day. We all felt that La Maison de Famille was a great discovery.

A wonderful place with a lovely hostess, warm and comfortable rooms and beds and a great breakfast. We were asked what we wanted for breakfast the night before and could not have asked for more. It was one of the highlights of our trip! Merci beaucoup!

The apartment consists of a large living room, a bedroom and a kitchen with everything you would need. Both from the bedroom and the entrance you can enter the large garden with facilities to enjoy outdoors. The apartment is part of a large mansion/residence; the garden belongs to the apartment. The location is quite central in Caen and has some places for private parking.

Great to be hosted by a French family in an “ancien” Caen residence. The room was just fine and close to everything I wanted to see. Breakfast served by Madame in the dining room overlooking the garden was a highlight. I was last in Caen some 50 years ago so this stay made for a great reunion.
