Friends had stayed here before and therefore we'd taken their recommendation. We'd also heard that the Hotel is experiencing some financial problems. Given the current economic climate and the amount of properties we saw for sale in the area it's not that surprising. The Hotel's difficulties were evident from perhaps the slightly jaded look of the property and rooms and... More

We have had good previous experiences of Relais du Silence, which led us to book two nights at le Cheval Blanc, on our way to and from Burgundy. On the positive side, the hotel is in a quiet, remote village, and the breakfasts were very good. However: Reception was perfunctory and we had to find our own way to the... More

We stayed in several 4 star hotels in France during 2 weeks in July 2009. This hotel is definitely not a four star. The room was tiny and shabby, the carpet worn and the towels frayed. The dining room was, however, very attractive and the food good, though not spectacular.

We booked this hotel and my god we had very shabby rooms across the road facing the river broken drain pipes etc we had to sit on the terrace with all kinds of rubbish around us. We had dinner in the restaurant that night because let it be very clear here there is no where else for miles and what... More

We were rudely treated; not allowed to book a table at 13:30 when, once there, we witnessed guests walking in after 13:30. One of the 26 Euros entrees was so scarce it took a minute to eat. Some of the dishes were of mediocre quality (don't order the macaroon dessert!). The service between first and main dishes was painfully slow.... More

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at Le Cheval Blanc, and were very disappointed, on arrival the reception area was not remotely like a country house hotel of my expectation, tacky red and perspex, the staff were disinterested to the point of rudeness , our room across the road was shabby in a way only the French... A group of us stayed in the suites in the annex across the road and were pleasantly surprised by the spacious if eccentric accommodation. Of course we compared our rooms and all were different in their own wonderful way, situated adjacent to the weir and river. We booked the 2 day gastronomie package and the whole experience was very good... More

Hotel and rooms are clean but quite old, and in need of overhaul. Some rooms are ok, others are less charming. This is not a 4-star hotel! It is part of Relais du Silence, but the hotel is near an Air Force base and is overflown by helicopters and jets, so not as quiet as you may expect during daytime.... More

The Cheval Blank was very nice. Our room, #11, was at the end of the building, faced out to the park/open area and a little stream. Seemed like one of the nicer rooms comparing it to the pictures on the internet. Our room was pretty large. Nice granite bathroom w/ separate bathtub (large!) and granite shower. 2 doors out to... Accommodation was disappointing, room was faded and bathroom dated. Walls were as thin as paper. Stayed for one night only, but breakfast on the Saturday morning was a joke. There were not enough tables to accommodate the guests staying and a queue formed to wait for a table to sit at. Some people waited ten minutes or more or just... More
