This small friendly hotel is ten minutes from the ferry port and 300 metres from the TGV station. It is easy to find on Boulevard de la Republique and close to a number of local restaurants. The hotel only provides breakfast and bar facilities. We have stayed here twice before and since our last visit much of the decoration of the hotel has been refurbished with new carpets, and bathroom facilities updated. It is very much a budget hotel without a lift to the four floors but breakfast facilities are good with plenty of croissants, pain au chocolate and fresh bread. If you don't eat it all the management provide paper bags for you to keep it to later ! Recommended as good value as long as you don't expect 5 star luxuries.

i had to book a room for 2 nights in saint malo and didn't book till a few days before. there was little accommodation available and i am travelling on a budget. the room was 65 euro a night including WIFI which for me is the number 1 feature i need in a hotel. the owner were pleasant and accommodating. the room was the size of a phone box. the wifi was a nightmare and only 1 device could be logged on at once as it was slow as a wet week and it kept logging itself off and then you had to watch a youtube ad before you could log on again. it did my head in. PLEASE owners if you advertise wifi then get real wifi for every room or a better solution than this as i would have booked the room if i had known it was a disaster. i won't stay there again

This is a good place to stay near the departure of the Ferries to the Channel Islands. The ferry terminal is less than a ten minutes drive. The room is small and adequate and at the back there was no noise. There is no lift and it was an effort to get our luggage along the stairs to the 3th floor. There is a Brasserie a few minutes walk from the hotel with excellent food at low prices.

We spent one night in this hotel in November 2014 while visiting Brittany and I was glad that we did not stay longer. The hotel is located about 10 minutes by walking from the historical center, which was convenient for us and which was the only positive of this hotel according to me. This hotel offers hostel type accommodation. First of all, the receptionist was not very nice. Our room was on the third floor (no elevator) and it was very small. Everything in the room was very warn with use and old. Walls were paper thin. When we came to the room, it was very cold (please note that we were staying in November and it gets pretty cold in Brittany in November...). The heating was off and I was unable to figure out how to turn it on. So I went down to the reception and asked the receptionist. I was told not to worry that the heating would be on eventually, that it's centrally controlled and so it turns on and off automatically at specified times. I said that it was really cold in our room and that it was not good especially as I had a pregnant friend staying with me. I was told that it was not possible that it was cold in the room and thus the conversation ended... The wifi was very slow, it disconnected every five minutes and you would have to fill in a long form every time you would want to connect again. Stay in this hotel if you want a cheap place close to the historical centre and if you don't care too much where you sleep. Otherwise stay away.

Lovely big room, bed as hard as a plank of wood. Other residents appeared to be a family of elephants competing in a decathlon - certainly running jumping and throwing events seemed to be taking place upstairs! Friendly, staff, breakfast OK.

We arrived at 2130, an hour late because our ferry was late, and they had already been online to check the ferry times, so they were prepared for this. Three lads on a cycling holiday, sharing a room. It was a bit basic, but it was all we needed, and everything worked properly. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and looked after our bikes for us. Breakfast was straightforward, not elaborate, but again it was all that we needed. Hassle-free start to our holiday.

Near the train station and about 10 mins walk from the intermuros of St Malo. We had a big room which was clean and functional. Breakfast was in a nice room served by the very friendly owners. We cycled and were allowed to leave our bikes in a spare room overnight. Ideal base to explore the area around St Malo

We chose this hotel based primarily on price. It was about 50€ for the night I think. The room was large, with 2 double beds and we were given a code for the Internet each. The room was rundown and seemed to be straight from the 80s. Like other french hotel rooms it came with its own unique smell. No parking is provided, but it was Sunday next day so we left our car right outside. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from Saint-Malo center.

We tried to book a property in St Malo (France) near the railway station & ferry port as the connection from flight to train to destination was 23.00 arrival time at Hotel, however late check-in request was 22.00 and TGV wont hurry train for us, which was confirmed after Booking.com confirmed "Late Check-in" but hotel declined with 10 Euro cancelation fee ! If you were a guest at Hotel de l'Europe, would you be allowed back to your room after 10.00pm ??? As the booking agents have my credit card details along with the Hotel, could check-in not occur next morning ? as has happened before with other booking agents. So 10 Euros down & no booking as promised with-in a 24hour period from a phone call from the agents. Bad Policy by both parties ?

We have stayed here a couple of times making the way from Jersey to Paris via St Malo. The hotel is near Hertz rental car and the train station, making waking up for the 6am train to Paris not too painful. The hotel is small and basic, but pleasant for one night's stay. Our room had a bed, tv, clothes rail, small sink and shower. The toilet was shared by two rooms. I will definitely stay here again. We have arrived around 10pm both times and the owner has been happy to wait up for us.
