Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Only stayed here for one night before catching a ferry from st Malo but it was a very nice room and the staff were friendly so couldn’t fault it. Also the beach nearby is amazing although almost non existent at high tide.

We'd seen some of the earlier negative comments and reviews and questioned whether to choose this hotel but, value for money won in the end and we're glad it did. The staff were great, really friendly and helpful, the room was a good size and the bed comfortable. It had coffee and tea making facilities but no air con so we left the windows open and despite reservations it wasn't that noisy. The breakfast is a typical continental but of a higher quality than most we'd experienced which is reflected in the higher price (11 Euro each). If you're on a budget though then the supermarket next door is open 7am - 8pm. Yes the wifi is a little temperamental but it works. Parking is free in this area so it can get a bit congested during the day as people park to walk into the walled city so you can move your car later in the evening if required. The city is a good 25 min walk which you can do either via the beach or the main road. The beach walk is opposite the hotel just follow the signs or turn left onto the main road from the front of the hotel and at the end of the road go right and it will take you into the old centre. Both walks are pleasant. If you do walk in via the road check out the restaurant Le Bouche A Ore, it's not a recommendation but we found the food to be great, the service was excellent and it offered better value than some of those in the walled city. We would definitely consider coming back to this hotel again as Saint Malo is now one of our favourite places in France and so was this stay.

We had room 27 which was relatively new. All facilities (except fridge and airco) available. Nice location 5 min from beach and 2km from coty centre. Very luxury breakfast for 11 euro extra. Friendly service.

Nice hotel, friendly reception, off road parking (10 Euros). Small but comfortable rooms, close to sea front, some shops, a number of restaurants, take aways and bars. Can recommend the breakfast (11 Euros) Very handy for the UK ferry.

I had read other reviews about the owner being rude and disrespectful but I thought "how bad it can be?" .... It was UNBELIEVABLE. When we arrived the poor receptionist (new?) could not find our reservation. In the meantime, the owner was chatting and laughing on the phone while this girl struggled for 10-15 min to find our booking. She finally asked us to wait for her boss to end up the call.... We waited, the woman looking at us and still talking and laughing on the phone, until she hanged up, came to us, and while she was looking for our reservation she LITERALLY sshh sssh' ed us! Yes, she actually shhhh shhh' ed us. We weren't event talking loud but just talking among ourselves while we waited for her! She finally did find our booking and just threw the key to us. We couldn't believe how she can manage her business like that. As if she was doing us a favour to let us stay in that hotel. If we hadn;t already paid Expedia for the full booking we would have walked away at once. If I were you, I would stay somewhere else. She can really make you angry.

We booked here before the next days ferry , family of four . We got room 25 , no idea why some people are moaning , it was fine , yes it's just off the street but my wife had injured her leg and it was ideal ! Nice big disabled bathroom / shower. Staff very friendly . WiFi a bit slow but hey that's France ! For a short stay it's ideal and we would stay again .

Beware of room 25 (quadruple). It's basically a converted garage, with the door onto the street. Although it was clean and the shower was hot this did not compensate for the dirty net curtains that were too small, leaving a large gap around the window and door to allow passers by to see in. The toilet seat was also broken. The major issue for me was the response from the owners - pay or leave when I asked for a different room or reduced rate. At 199 Euro it's an absolute rip off. This is my first review on trip advisor which demonstrates my dissatisfaction.

Good afternoon Austin S, I wanted to answer you because we understand that the quadruple room on the ground floor can upset (it overlooks the street). However, this room was never a garage. It is located next to our garage door but I don't see the report. We are obliged to have a room on the ground floor allowing the persons with reduced mobility to stay in our hotel. The toilet seat wasn't broken and the curtains are cleaned regularly. You came to me to ask me to change rooms and unfortunately I couldn't do it. The 3 other family rooms were already occupied. The rate of 199 € with the included breakfasts is a very correct rate for the month of August in Saint-Malo to 100m of the beach. I helped you find a parking space. I kept the parking place on the boulevard, the time that your husband arrives by car. I find it unfortunate that you seem to notice only the negative and no kindness. Pauline chef de réception

We we looking very forward to our stay and we're drastically disappointed. The hotel was dingy at best and simple amenities such as room keys, internet and tv did not work. The owner was the worst part. Very rude and unaccommodating and had no interest at making it a present stay. Save your money and stay at one of the fabulous hotels in the old town with more charm and better location.

I was a brief visitor to this hotel last week. I was split up from my travelling companions and unfortunately had no working communication available to me. The hotel helped me immensely, providing toilet facilities for me and access to a phone (without charge). The lovely receptionist was then called by my friends and came to find me outside the hotel. To me, this was service higher than I would have expected. Whilst I didn't stay in the hotel, the actions of their staff would suggest they are customer facing.

This was our second stay at Hotel Eden. It's location is ideal for our purposes: to break our homeward journey before catching the morning ferry from Saint-Malo and accommodate our dog, who travels with us. Our ground-floor room on the terrasse was large, clean and convenient. The magnificent seafront promenade and expansive sandy beach are just the job for dog walking. The ferry port is 10-15 minutes away. Add to that the welcome at Hotel Eden, the pleasant rooms and a substantial buffet breakfast - all at a very good rate - and you'll understand why we will return when next travelling via Saint-Malo. Thank you Caroline.
