Went here for a writer's retreat. Wendy and Robert are the new proprietors and they have made this charming little hotel into a destination. Several cozy lounges (including one with dining tables, couches, and a beautiful view of the sea), delicious food, great collection of spirits, and a gated front yard where they will bring you afternoon tea and scones... We spent two nights at the hotel, with our toddler and a couple of friends. Booked 2 seaview rooms and were not disappointed: room 4 for our friends was slightly smaller, our room 3 had two windows and room for a cot and was spotlessy clean. Not huge, but big enough, nicely furnished, comfortable and cosy. Nice bathroom with very... More

This is a character-filled old hotel in a stunning location on Iona Isle - well worth the trip to get there. While the rooms are on the small side they are fully self-contained, spotless & comfortable. The menus produced by the chef are amazing - loads of locally sourced and award-winning fare. Do try their Kelpie ale in the conservatory.... More

We didn't stay in the hotel, but frequented the restaurant for lunch, tea and dinner several times during our week on Iona. The current Chef Pam's creations are delightful. Wonderful combinations such as the hot smoked trout starter and the butter bean and leak salad were not only delicious but beautifully presented. The gardens next to the hotel produce fresh... More

This hotel is well placed for the ferry as cars are not allowed on Iona. It is spotlessly clean - and has a lovely garden where coffee/bar is served. The owners are helpful - including looking after luggage post check out. Great views from front rooms. Great service at first - but less so second half of stay with second... More

First let me apologise for any distress that your experience here has caused. As excited new proprietors we opened at the end of March and so had not ironed out some of the problems that experience will eliminate. l and my staff were still finding our feet at the start of the season. The breakfast order was my mistake and... More

We had a few disappointments with our accommodations on our trip but arriving at the Argyll Hotel on Iona at the end of it all more than made up for them. Its a bit old fashioned but that's its beauty. I don't suppose anyone goes to Iona for modern multistorey hotels so its maybe not surprising. "Quaint" sums up the... More

We didn't stay in the hotel, but went for dinner on the last night before the hotel closed for the season. The public areas were warm and inviting, and we were welcomed and seated efficiently. The waiting staff were well informed about the menu and the wine list. The menu had well balanced and imaginative choices. The lamb and pork were particularly... More

I had a great stay at the Argyll. Super comfortable and quaint room. Delicious food. Great location. Only complaint- it is not really a full service hotel & staff are more focused on restaurant than hotel. Great overall. More

This was our second trip to Iona and we knew we wanted to stay at the Argyll with its fabulous views over the water to Mull, its good food and its warm welcome. Having read some earlier reviews, we booked well in advance and knew to ask for a front room with a view. We were not disappointed. The room... More

I can only comment on Dinner as we stayed in a cottage not far from the hotel. Dinner was incredible, quite unexpected for an Island as Iona. They've been doing a good job at it for many years and are still improving. The common rooms are nice (they had no problem letting us use wifi) and cozy, and the front... More
