It is interesting that this hotel is classified as a restaurant with rooms. For us, 10 out of 10 for the room; get one overlooking the sea and you will find nowhere more beautiful to stay. Although at our age we had a bit of a problem getting out of bed (which we have found in other rooms on previous... More

Thank you for writing such a considered review and I am glad that we are on the whole making progress. The breakfast offering, I agree, is not quite right yet. We are making changes right now so I hope you will be more satisfied by it next time. As for vegetables being in short supply, we have struggled to get... More

Visited Iona on a day trip from nearby Mull. Had the most fantastic lunch in the garden that looks onto views that I can only describe as breathtaking. The food was fantastic and I enjoyed the knowledgeable description of my food from the waitress who explained how every vegetable is grown in the garden round the back. This is true... More

We have just returned from a week at the Argyll Hotel on Iona where we recharged our batteries! The hotel is from a different era - smallish bedroms now that en-suites have been added, but comfy beds and tea and coffee making facilities in the room - what more could one ask for? All the staff are friendly and helpful... More

We have eaten in the restaurant regularly for the last 2 years, the food was always good and varied. There are changes in the kitchen this year, we were a bit apprehensive, but having eaten there 3 times last week, we are delighted to find that the standard is still high, with imaginative food, and a good variety of daily changing... Like our recent visit to the Tobermory Hotel, this building is, I guess, a relatively old hotel and the bedrooms are quite small since they have added en-suite facilities to most. The owners have compensated for this by having 3-4 different lounges that you can go into. However two things need to be taken into account. Sometimes Iona can be... More

We arrived to a warm welcome and shown to cosy room with a superb view out to sea. Bathroom was compact and functional except that there is only a hand-held shower. Refillable bottles of organic shampoo, conditioner and shower/bath gel was a nice touch except that the bath gel was solid and unpourable. Dinner on the first night: Shown to... More

Dear Sue, Thank you for the range of comments made and I am glad that overall we made a good impression. I have passed your comments on to the chef regarding the food, and I can only apologise for lack of consistency in the scrambled eggs and bread service. As regards the seating, we have 4 sun lounge tables which... More

We did not stay at the hotel but ate dinner here on two evenings. It was very good food each time, with efficient and friendly service. Gorgeous langoustines with very garlicky aioli; beautifully cooked scallops with herb croutons and delicate lemon sauce; salmon with beans, chorizo and carrot purée; lentil fritters with Middle Eastern flavourings, yoghurt, tempura beets and sweet potato... We had a great welcome from Wendy and Rob who catered for every need. Great breakfast with views over the sea. Fine dining evening meal with excellent choice. This hotel is 150 years old so don't expect large rooms. Also our en suite not good for me with only a hand shower in bath. Wifi available in dining room. Only... More

We stayed for 5 nights from 6th April and had an excellent time. The weather was sunny and the hospitality and service at the hotel was as usual so very good. This is our 6th time of staying and the second time under the present ownership. We will return next year. The food is of a high standard and the... More

We stayed here as part of a group of cyclists. Booking was easy and they coped well all the changes I made. Wonderful location with views over the sound to Mull and a garden that goes down to the water. Staff are very friendly and dealt with 9 tired and wet cyclists very well. Rooms are fine for a hotel...
