I have stayed here twice previously for friends weddings. The hotel is dated but comfortable with decent food and lovely staff. I would happily return. Our trip was to take the widow of an old friend to dinner so I guess I was not very critical but I enjoyed my visit.

Old but very comfortable hotel on the northern Scottish coast. You can catch a ferry from here to the Orkney Islands, or drive to John O'Groats to do the same. You can also do a driving trip west across the top of Scotland and see some amazing coastlines. Some of the best meals can be had here and great for... More

My company books me in here and I must have stayed 10 times over the last two years. Never again! Carpets in reception are threadbare. Advertised wi-fi is available in reception only. Room TV from a museum is tiny and mounted 8ft up the wall. Ferry from Orkney arrives in nearby Scrabster at 1815, but dinner here is not served... More

The Pentland Hotel is quite an old fashioned, traditional hotel and none the worse for that. A major plus point is the staff members who were all very friendly and eager to help. We were in room 1 which was a good size with a separate dressing and wardrobe area. The bathroom was clean with a large bath and over... More

Stayed here for one night (28th Feb 2013). The staff are very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent (dinner & breakfast). The room was clean but in need on an upgrade/update. Little matched and it had not been decorated for a considerable time. The bed was a pine frame with a very lumpy mattress on top. Having to empty... More

Its so hard to find a good hotel in Thurso; the hotels have so little competition that they are all really down at heel, dowdy and tired. I reckon the town hotels really could do with a shake up and a Premier Inn or such opening up. However, the Pentland although a bit tatty and tired was clean and the... More

Stayed for one night on a business trip. The hotel sits in the middle of Thurso. Overall the hotel is very tired with seventies decor. The bedroom was small. The bedside light on one side didn't work. There was old water in the kettle. Breakfast was ok and the bar food was good. Utilitarian hotel. I would use it again... More

I thought I had found an ideal hotel after many try's. let me detail the good points 1- the staff were always friendly 2- the rooms are clean and sufficiently equipped , some rooms are on the small side but for someone who... Stayed here on a CIE tour. Large lobby with lots of sofas. Very old fashion decore'. Room was small but adequate. No lift or air. Breakfast and dinner were included. Food was average. It would not have been a hotel I choose Didnt get to explore town, since we arrived later in the day and left right after breakfast, so... More
