As stated by other reviewers, the Laurel Bank Hotel in Markhinch (not really Glenrothes) is very handy if you're passing through for the night or going to a wedding at nearby Balbirnie House, as I was. It's basic, and ironically for what comes next, quite clean and perfectly adequate. Although I did find a used syringe in my room. I... More

stayed for 3 nights on business. i find it unusual as no housekeeping was provided throughout my stay. the morning reception (blond girl) was grumpy - probably, morning is not her thing, so dont expect any "good morning" or "thank you" from her. balance out by extremely friendly lady cleaner, went all out to get me coffee even though i... We booked the hotel for an overnight stay after attending a wine-tasting event at the Markinch Wine Gallery. Reception was informal in the hotel lobby! Our room was quite adequate and comfortable (room 7) with tea / coffee facility, TV & bathroom shower. We only had drinks in the bar, we had dinner elsewhere with friends. Breakfast was very good... I stayed here over a working week recently and found it to be perfectly adequate. There was nothing outstanding, but nothing really to complain about either. "Reception" is done in the lounge bar - which sounds worse than it is, as the lounge bar is very nicely done out decor-wise, probably because its more aimed at restaurant clientele than lounge... We booked in advance for a Saturday evening which was just as well as the Haig Restaurant was very busy. We were quickly shown our table, but did wait a wee while for our order to be taken. Probably due to the number of people being served. Drinks arrived quickly, so happy with this. The starters of prawn cocktail and... More

I stayed at this hotel at the last minute as the hotel I normally stay at was fully booked. However I was not disappointed. It was a smaller hotel but very warm and comfortable. The rooms were very clean and there was tea coffee and biscuits included. Lovely wooden floors and a modern bethroom. The breakfast, which was included in... More

My family and I have been here a few times now, and have never had a bad meal, however admittedly the food has a better reputation than reality. A few meals are rather bland, and a lot of options on the menu are fried. Typical pub food, really. The most irritating thing, however, is the shocking grammar and lack of... More

Great wee hotel.Nice food and good selection of beers in bar. Most of staff polite and professional. One big bug bare was that on arriving at hotel with my children, going for dinner, is the access entrance was full of smokers. So had to walk through second hand smoke. Disgusting. Staff behind bar just shrugged shoulders when I complained . I... More

Visited here as a group on a leaving party for lunch - Biggest mistake ever and a real shame for the person leaving, having such a poor send off. From ordering at 12.15pm, (starters & main courses) the Food arrived after 1hr15mins, after several complaints by members of the group. Salads being srved in Soup bowls, while the exact same... More

A great place to stay, it has all you need, not a five star hotel but clean, tidy and comfortable. Only gripe I would have is the breakfast was not piping hot. The food in the evening was wonderful and a great choice was available. Staff were friendly. Will defiantly stop there again.
