Stayed at the Guest House for 2 nghts whilst visiting Edinburgh. The rooms are on the 3ed and 4th floor of the building which means lots of stairs, no lift. The Breakfast room is on the lower floor and my room was on the top floor. There are no public areas where you could sit andf my room was not... More

Its location is central so it is easy to walk to most places. Harry and Shirley are very nice and helpful and their breakfast is great. The only negative point is the noise at night which makes sleeping difficult - so down a few drinks! Good visit and I am sure we will return at some stage More

The pros for this place? Great location for walking into the city and reasonably priced. The breakfast was good BUT served far too late at 9am on a Sat. Harry did come in a bit early the first day when we told him we had booked the Hairy Coo Tour and had to be out of the hotel by 8:15... More

Harry seemed stressed when we arrived and stressed when we left. No chit chat or offer of help or advice regarding this beautiful city was offered. Bed was very poor, sloped and our friend in adjoining room felt she was going to fall out of bed all night as well. The thing that did spoil our stay was the noise... More

Stayed at the Elder York for 3 nights during the festival. As mentioned in previous reviews there are quite a few steps to reach the reception but we did not find this a problem. On our arrival we were met by Harry the owner who was very helpful and friendly. Our room overlooked the main road and there was some... More

We stayed at the Elder York Guest House with our two teenage sons for one night. We stayed in a four bed room. Both the bedroom and the bathroom were spacious. The double bed was too hard though. There was also a lot of noise from the very busy road outside, starting around 4 am. But absolutely ok for one... More

My boyfriend & I satyed at this hotel for one night ahead of a wedding outside the city. I was confident we'd found a nice place as there were so many good reviews. However our room was ok but the bathroom was pretty shabby and built a bit oddly into the room with just a unsteady sliding door. There were... More
