This place was great value - clean, good wifi, bike storage, and a great bar area. The beds weren't particularly comfortable and the bunk above me looked as if it might collapse on me (but hey, it didn't...) but you come to expect that from hostel rooms. Both the bedrooms and bathrooms really lacked privacy, but again this is something... More

We have stayed at the Caledonian several times in the past year, from short one night stays, to a couple of weeks, and in dorms that held anywhere between 20 and 38 beds. The only drawback is the lack of privacy and room in the showers/toilets. We are used to that having travelled in Europe (where in some places the... More

I didn't do any research at all before I started my Trip to Scotland. This Hostel was the first one I saw from the airlink shuttlebus, so I gave it a shot and asked if they got a bed left for me. I was lucky and got a bed at the 20 person mixed dorm. The staff was very helpfull... More

After months of staying at hostels throughout various European capitals, I can say that this place goes above and beyond, and at a very fair price. Building: It was spacious, comfortable, and offered for free most of the amenities than many hostels charge for (even lockers with power outlets so you can charge electronics while storing them.) There are plenty... More

I regularly stay in hostels, but I'm in my early 30's so perhaps I've just got to the point where I don't like grungy hostels anymore with loud music etc. It's friendly and central, but a bit old and run down and I found another hostel for my stay later in the week which I found more appropriate for me.... the hostel is quite far away as it said on the booking confirmation. Anyway thatwas my only optyion when a friend and me stayed in Edinburgh for a weekend (it was Rugby-weekend). we paid 25 £ pppn in a 6-bedroom. The beds were good. But i think there are not enough showers for everybody... breakfast was really good for early... More

Caledonian Backpacker's is the quintessential hostel experience--filled with colorful art and characters in a super location. Great bar and rooms and amenities. Super choice for the young, adventurous or budget conscious traveler. More

This place is FAR! Trust me, Edinburgh is way larger than it looks. From the train station and downtown this place is a good long walk down a basic shopping street. If you only came here to shop at stores you can find everywhere else then this is a the place. But if you actually want to see Edinburgh go... More

This hostel is, by far, one of the best that I have stayed in. Pros: FREE wifi, and computers available EVERYWHERE. Super clean, amazing and friendly staff (except that young woman that works in the bar in the evening). Cheap drinks, and yummy lattes in the bar, free continental breakfast, free storage for your bags if you leave later in... More

Very poor. Window in our room would not close, about half metre space, all day and night! Two showers per floor with transparent screens, two toilets and no urinals (for males), one toilet was out of paper and the next day out of order! The bar was dull and had creepy people, and the barman decided he wanted to finish... More
