Good location - main bus routes into city centre. Manager very polite and hospitable. But regrettably the whole place needs an upgrade. We had a double room with ensuite - sounds good but not!! The room was unkept, dust and cobwebs everywhere, the carpet had not seen a vacuum for ages! The bed however was clean. But the ensuite disgusting.... More

Great location on the main bus-routes into the city centre. Free-parking was extremely helpful. Master bedroom was great for our first time away together. Breakfasts were good. Owner was helpful and friendly. Extremely pleased for the price, would come again.

I have stayed in the The Mayville Guest House a few times now and have always enjoyed my stay. Ok its not the Ritz, but for the price, it is excellent value. The rooms are decent, the breakfast is very nice and the location is good, pubs, restaurants all within a 5 minute walk. The Edinburgh castle and Royal mile... More

I had pre-booked a twin room a few weeks before my arrival in Edinburgh for myself and a friend. When arriving at the guest house we had to wait half an hour before the owner answered the door. He was rude, spoke to us like dirt and told us he had no record of my booking. We are two twenty... More

Don't stay here! We booked to stay here for New Years. We booked in September and had recieved confirmation of our booking by email. When we got there they told us they'd cancelled our booking a week before we were due to stay there and had notified us of that by email. They hadn't emailed us at all, as I'd... More

The Mayville Guest House was a little cozy bed and breakfast where we have stayed few days and which I would offer to anyone seeking good location and lovely service, suitable for couples and families.

I wasn't sure about booking here after reading the reviews... I honestly have no idea where all the negativity came from! I loved it. I had a massive room to myself, with free fast wi-fi. fridge, and aesthetic fireplace. The staff couldn't be more friendly. Location great for newington/city center/ meadows pubs and attractions. The house is an old victorian,... More

As an alternative to a hostel at least it is a private bedroom, with en-suite, but the decor is poor the beds not the most comfortable and the shower in my room was a cold dribble. On the plus side at least there is some parking. It is a little out of town, but good access and there is free... More

you pay for a very basic but comfortable room which is in need of decor. breakfast excellent and very friendly chap who apologised for lack of decor as he was not the owner. parking good and a bus ride away from princess st. cost 6.50 for taxi back late sat night. Yes we would go again.
