Had a lovely overnight stay here May 2013. Room was snug but was nicely decorated and clean with not so modern bathroom but satisfactory. Couldn't get into the restaurant as fully booked on the Friday night but had meal in bar from same menu and was excellent. The lobster soup was superb and the steak and ale pie very tasty... More

My second time having dinner at the Anchor and absolutely brilliant both times. Very warm welcome and the food is outstanding. A lot of fish dishes but there's still a great choice if you don't like fish. One of my favourite places in the area.

Whether you are traveling to the Montrose / Angus area on business or pleasure, I would highly recommend the Anchor Hotel. The bar and kitchen staff are very friendly and helpful and Gary the owner cooks a mean full breakfast to your liking. Jan, Gary's wife also makes you feel welcome. I stayed here last night and had the best... More

My husband, teenager daughter, dog and I had a one night stay start of March 2013 in a cottage let out by the Anchor Hotel. Had a great stay the cottage was very comfortable, spacious, spotlessly clean, had everything that you could need including plenty wardrobe space, lots of fresh clean towels. Lovely view over the harbour. We had our... More

Haven't stayed but had dinner upstairs in restaurant. Food and service very good. Quite alot of fish on the menu which you expect from restaurant in fishing village. Service and price good for dishes offered. Would definately go back.

Stayed here for a night to be near a friends' house. Lovely warm welcome from all the staff, lovely clean room. Probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! Would loved to have stayed longer, the menu looked gorgeous and our breakfast was ace - nothing too much trouble. We'll be back for sure :)

We dine here quite frequently and have always found the food to be first-rate. Freshly prepared dishes, using locally sourced ingredients. The lobster and chilli soup, when available, is to die for! On our last visit I had the pheasant, which was delicious, although there was a pellet in it, but this just serves to prove that the bird was... More

I stayed here for one night on business and for what I was staying for it was ideal. However I would have struggled staying in that particular room for any length of time as there wasn't room for a suitcase the room was so small. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and tiny sink but did the job. The TV... More

We booked a double room (the twin was not available). Apart from the loo we must have had the smallest room - one of four - in the hotel! It was about 9 x 9 and could only accommodate the double bed and two bedside tables. There was a corner shelf about 12 inches deep, which the mini kettle and... More

We've stayed on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Rooms are spotless and very cosy, and the food is second to none. It's a very community spirited place and I have to say, after a booking mix-up, staff could not have gone further to look after us. Helena (barmaid) and her husband are complete stars in that respect!!! We... More
