We stayed one night at the Royal Hotel in Llangollen on our way from Oxfordshire to Criccieth to meet up with family for the Bank Holiday weekend. We loved the hotel. The chap on reception was amusing and very friendly, all the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was huge! Our room overlooked the river and... More

Stayed 4 nights mid week. Friendly welcome and all staff were friendly throughout the stay. If the hotel's car park is full, they can give you a pass to park on the street right in front of the hotel. In practice, this means that they have more car parking space in proportion to the number of rooms than many other... More

The Royal Hotel is in dire need of an update in more ways than one. Dirty windows, threadbare carpet, musty smell, (and thats just the welcoming lobby). Unfortunately, we didn't even get much further than that. The elderly guy at reception had double booked us, and said we should not be here on a Bank Holiday (as if it was... More

We reserved a twin room with a river view. Confirmation via email that we would have a lovely twin room with river view. Arrived late afternoon. Not enough parking but management allowed us to park in front of garage door. When we arrived at our room we noticed we did not have a river view. When I asked the elderly... More

This hotel is in need of a refurb but it isn't as bad as the last reviewer claims. The stair carpet has holes in where people are bumping suitcases upstairs as they don't have a lift so I don't blame them for not replacing it. We had room 204 and it was lovely and clean, very warm with excellent views... More

Dilapidated decor, reception staff didn't seem to have any idea what they were doing, holes in stair carpet and broken panes of glass in fire door held together with cello-tape dirty paintwork throughout the building. The room was reasonably clean but the shower well what can I say it delivered a feeble trickle of water. Lack of sleep due to... More

Grand old hotel but desperately needs a thorough deep clean, paintwork and window sills were filthy.Heating in bedroom wasnt working but was " fixed" quickly by a member of staff by breaking the corroded thermastat and adjusting. On the positive the hotel is in a delightfull location overlooking the river and the breakfast was very good with good service.

Delightful building and astounding views. The positives stop there. Called in for a quick snack. Decided on the dessert and tea advertised in the window. Only one other couple in the bar who were just finishing a drink. No staff in the bar and no way of calling for attention. We sat and waited for someone to come for our... More

Day Trip: looking for a lunch stop overlooking the river. The other side of the road had limited views of the river with open doors on a cold day (9 degrees C) I almost walked past the Royal, but my wife saw a menu and the price looked right, so we went in to explore the restaurant. There were no... More
