Like in the old joke about the three things that mattered to me when visiting family at the university: location, location, location. Really central but still quiet in the evenings, pleasant room decor with everything a normal person could want (even an ice-bucket for the cold-drink obsessed Americans) and reasonably priced. Only quibble is that it was not possible to... More

We were there for a weekend. The reception staff were friendly and helpful and our room was excellent - a good size, comfortable, quiet and nicely decorated (I even liked the pictures on the wall!). The large bathroom had natural light, a large bath and a removable shower head. We had reserved a parking space in advance and even though... More

This hotel in in the heart of Oxford. The staff are really helpful. There is the advantage of a car park as parking is very limited in oxford. Breakfast was excellent, the hot dishes are cooked to order and a varied menu. We have stayed here many times to attend University functions.

The convenient location of this hotel to city center Oxford makes it worthwhile for either personal or business travel. The hotel meets all my basic requirements for a work-related trip. I especially like its close proximity to coach stations servicing London and the major airports. One minor flaw is that there was no lift (elevator) on my side of the... More

Stayed at this hotel only for 1 night and it was fine. The room was good size, maybe with slightly outdated decor but it was clean. The bathroom was clean as well, quite big. The hotel is located just off the main street so it was possible to walk anywhere we wanted.

Returning to Oxford after many years to show my daughter where I had studied, we caught the bus (Oxford Tube) up from London. There is a stop in the High Street a few meters from the Eastgate. That is one of the major pluses of this hotel - its central location, meaning all the major things to see are within... More

I stayed in room 216 which is a very small double room. Staff weren't really that friendly when I checked in. I'd been working and travelling all day so really just wanted to get to the room. The hotel downstairs is nice, however in my room the decoration was tired and there were massive cracks in the door frame, and... More

A nothing special hotel in a very special place. The room and bathroom overall were clean and acceptable for 3* but the bath tired with staining around its base. At reception I noticed the daily room rates given (well over £200) reflect the location, of Oxford, which the hotel is clearly exploiting. The restaurant menu was so-so but, on Sunday... More

Overnight stay for a graduation. Car parking a definite bonus in central Oxford and the hotel were happy for us to arrive early and leave our car until later in the afternoon having checked out in the morning. Comfortable room with a seating area and a good shower. Didn't eat in the restaurant but has a welcoming and spacious bar... More

We stayed at the Mercure Eastgate for 3 nights as we were attending a wedding in Oxford city centre. The hotel is centrally located and is very convenient for shops and the colleges. The hotel also has a secured paid parking spaces available, which is very handy, but spaces are limited. The room we stayed in was pleasant, and big... More
