Have just spent a week at The Stables, which is now self catering. The accomodation was excellent, two large bedrooms - both with ensuite bathrooms, dining area and cosy lounge. We went with grown-up son & partner so there wasn't any arguing over who was having the better bedroom. Everything in the cottage was pristine and to a high standard.... More

The cottage has been turned into a fantastic self catering accommodation. We arrived to a welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, tea coffee and marmalade. All we had to do was put kettle on and read through the local information and brochures which were provided. The cottage offers equal accommodation for two couples which is very rare (beds can be... Service was perfect, we even got direct ride to Vindolanda. Bedrooms are made for a good night sleep. And fireplace in "breakfastroom" worked fine. Not to mention shower with chair and of course bath. More

We had a very nice time staying in Montcoffer. Went there to observe lighting of the Hadrian's Wall and needed just 1 night accommodation. From the moment we arrived to the last minute we had a feeling of being welcome with a discrete presence of helpful owners, Dehlia and John. We've booked B&B and on arrival were led to a... More

We stayed two nights and had a great time. John and Dehlia were attentive to our every need. The breakfast was delicious. The bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms were new. The price was very reasonable. I even left and adaptor behind and they sent it back to the States free of charge. More

The Montcoffer is in an incredible, renovated stable building with unbelievable furnishings. John and Dehlia make a great breakfast, and you can't beat the prices. Definitely stay here when visiting Hadrian's Wall. Also well-located for a day trip to Durham. More

We stayed September 11 - 12 while walking a portion of Hadrian's Wall. John and Dehlia were most accommodating. Our room was beautifully decorated, including the century old carved headboard. John's famous Northumbrian breakfast was hearty and delicious. September is wild mushroom season. His sauteed wild mushrooms and grilled tomatoes were wonderful treats. The inn is easily reached by rail... More

We stayed at Montcoffer during our walk along the Hadrian's Wall national trail. We stayed at six B&B's/hotels along the way, and this was my favorite. They were kind enough to give us a ride to and from the trail (which was much appreciated) and it was therefore very easy to get to. The bedroom and ensuite looked brand-new and... More

I'm writing this a bit after the fact, but here goes. I recall the breakfast being quite tasty (especially the mint eggs) and the room very large and well-furnished. The shower had no edge along the floor, which I found odd, but it was large and roomy. The proximity to Hadrian's Wall is helpful, although I don't remember much about... More

Montcoffer B&B is located in the lovely little town of Bardon Mill, which I fell in love with immediately. Our hostess, Dehlia, showed us to our room with little fanfare, but everything was clean and in order. The two accommodations are housed in what was the old stableblock, and host John has succeeded in transforming this space into really elegant... More
