Having been a regular visitor to Thornley House for the past three years I feel reasonably well qualified to comment on it, now that the shock has worn off! If you are a disciple of Lenny Henry and enjoy the stylised, sterilised monotony of a Premier Inn and its ilk, my favourite retreat is definitely not for you. However, if... More

My husband and I (both very keen on cats) had a lovely time here. We were welcomed by Eileen with an offer of tea and a scone and shown our room with it's separate art deco bathroom. Eileen introduced us to the cats (2 Maine Coons, a pedigree kitten and 3 moggies). The moggies in particular were very friendly and... More

I booked this B and B for a present for my husbands birthday and was drawn to it as we could take our 9 month old beagle puppy. When we arrived we were made extremely welcome and were served tea, homemade cheese scones and warm bakewell tarts. The house is beautiful with real character and full of lovely trinkets, ornaments... More

If you are a lover of cats, beautiful countryside, fascinating conversation with a bit of culture thrown in this is the place for you. The bedroom was clean and comfortable with splendid views of the surrounding country, including the two donkeys in the field, while the breakfasts were delicious and just the job to set you up for a day's... We saw a re-run of Four in a Bed.....and immediately knew Thornley House was the place for us! We booked to visit the following weekend, and this beautiful house lived up to all our expectations. The house was so warm and welcoming, and our room so cosy and comfortable. Unfortunately we missed meeting Eileen, who was away, but we were... More

We went to Thornley House as a treat for my birthday. I can honestly say it was fantastic. If you are a cat or animal lover you are going to love this. If you don't like animals, then this is not for you (there are also 2 donkeys, Gilbert & Sidney) as well as pheasants and numerous wild birds. We... More

We stayed 2 nights whilst visiting relatives. Being cat lovers this was heaven - my daughter was especially taken with the kitten. The donkeys were friendly and an added bonus. Eileen was very welcoming and keen to show us round the house and garden. Shirley looked after us in the mornings and again is hugely friendly and really helpful. Eileen... More

My girlfriend and I spent two nights at Thornley House over New Year 2012-13. We chose this Bed and Breakfast because of its great (and arguably famous) reputation and close proximity to the village of Allendale (1/4 mile away) - which holds an annual Pagan tar barrel festival on New Year's eve. Neither the festival or B&B disappointed. The host... More

My fiancee and I just stayed here while on a trip to Hexham to visit Hadrian's Wall and the other ancient sites there. It's a beautiful old manor house with great amenities - including heated beds that are very comfortable in the winter. But it's the other things that make it great. Eileen, the owner, is a great hostess and... More
