First time we've ever stayed in a YHA & only because everything else was booked up for the number of rooms we wanted. Very pleasant surprise. Although the room was fairly basic & spartan, it was clean, spacious & comfortable, with amazing views. The staff were very helpful & made real efforts to please & advise. Breakfast was a bit... Had a couple of nights here with my daughter at the end of october. Setting is spectacular on the cliff top overlooking the abbey, with free entry to the abbey. If arriving by car you get to the end of the road and think now where, entry is through the gate house down the side of the entry to the... More

First, it is very hard to find. Drive to the Abbey and then go through arch (as another "reviewer" has said). It's first come first served in the car park and not many spaces. Fab location and a free ticket (family or otherwise) into the Abbey. Room was basic but clean and had amazing views - both over the abbey... More

This is a very pleasant and clean hostel although a little more like the functional hostels of old ...it is very much a youth hostel and not a backpackers hostel. There's a very large guests kitchen for preparing and eating your own meals although it seems a large number of guests opt to do this so it gets very busy.... More

This YHA hostel is in a great location right at the top of the 199 steps and next to the Abbey. Parking is a bit of a problem when the hostel is full, but you can get a permit from the front desk. do not bother with the WiFi as you can only get it if you sit next to... More

I have stayed at this youth hostel several times and always find it warm, friendly and comfortable. The dormitories are small and comfortable, and there are family rooms. Facilities are excellent and the attached restaurant good. The sensitively-restored house is very old and is well interpreted with labels and posters, and the refurbished medieval gardens particularly interesting. The location is... More

Stayed at Whitby YHA for 3 nights with family. Fantastic location, right next to the Abbey - at first we couldn't find entrance (go through the arch!) but when we did get there the welcome was terrific. Room was basic (but remember it is a hostel after all!) with two sets of bunk beds, but we had ensuite shower and... More
