We decided at the last minute to go to the lakes over the late May bank holiday. Looking for some accommodation we came across a room at the Chestnuts. On arrival we were greeted with Tea and home-made cake and biscuit's which was very nice. We stayed in room 6 on the 2nd floor. Nice large room with a big... More

May 2013. We stayed seven nights in this super little B&B hotel. On arrival we were welcomed by Heather who quickly produced a large pot of tea and cake whilst Nigel carried our baggage upstairs to our room on the first floor. Heather was very friendly and helpful in advising us where to find local places to eat in the... More

Me and my partner stayed at Chestnuts in July 2012 (ive only just got round to reviewing). The hotel is well positioned and comfortable walking distance from Bowness which was the main reason for us selecting it.. I would say the walk is around 10 mins to Bowness, but it is along the main road down to the water and... More

We stayed here over the may bank holiday having never visited the lake district before. Location was a short walk into bowness and windermere and a short drive to hawkshead and wray castle. The service we had was very good, although I found the host a bit stressed albeit friendly over breakfast. Check out was 10.30am which was a little... More

Stayed here for the Early May Bank Holiday as a last minute surprise for the Trouble and Strife and it was a really enjoyable stay. Parking was easy and we were welcomed by Heather who offered us a Tea or Coffee which I thought was a nice touch after our journey. The walk into Bowness is around 10 mins at... More

Got there earlier than planned owners were out but they left a contact number for people to contact them if needed. They arrived back in 15 mins. They appolgized & booked us in. They offered us tea or coffee, which we didn't refuse & good job as it came with homemade Easter cake & biscuits. Bedroom was on the ground... More

The chestnuts is a lovely quiet and welcoming guest house...Obviously the upkeep is important to the owners..nothing scruffy and the beds are v.comfortable.the breakfast was first class and plenty as i eat alot..The only one minor annoyance if there is one,is no heater in the bathroom and was abit cold but that is a minor thing compared to the overall... Cake and tea on arrival, what a lovely touch.Room spotless.lot of choice in the area for the money why bother with anything else. There is a small car park for guests but on road parking no problem. We were suprised to see only one table left at breakfast considering it only early march showed its popularity.

I'm a regular visitor to the Lakes and these days always stay at this lovely guest house, Heather and Nigel are very welcoming and it's easy walking distance to both Bowness and Windermere, on a quiet road away from the traffic noise. Rooms cosily decorated, with all the facilities you expect these days and spotlessly clean, and the beds are... More
