Hello 'Dxd_essa', I awknowledge that, along with this review, you wrote a similiar one on the Booking.com website. I am sorry that the description of YHA Windermere on the Booking.com site is not a little bit clearer that we are in fact a Youth Hostel, and not a hotel. We do need to lock the doors to the building at... More

This Youth Hostel is excellent, first the good points, there are wonderful views from the rear patio, excellent breakfast at £4.99 including cereal, fruit juice, tea and coffee and a full English. Dinner can be ordered before 19.00 that includes three courses for less than £13,00. Other a la carte options available all very reasonably priced. The Hostel is spotless... More

Thanks for your great comments - much appreciated! Sorry that you had such a warm night - there are restrainers on the windows for safety (as we don't want to lose any guests) but we'll see if these can be opened further. Glad you got some sunshine though, and the sunsets over the lake have been spectacular. More

We stayed here for a night during Xmas 2012, by luck rather than judgement. Came back again last month we enjoyed it so much. We're now living in Olympia (near Seattle) and wish we had similar options over here. The welcome from the Kiwi manager was fantastic. The meals were great, they even cooked a special meal for my son.... More

Thanks Richard for your very kind review, and hope we get to welcome you and your family a third time. Regards, Mic Whitty P.S. I know 'the customer is always right'; but I simply must pull you up on two fronts - I'm not the Manager, and I'm definately NOT KIWI :-) More

If you have booked a YHA you should know what you get and not be expecting 5 star. That said the service here is excellent and the staff very willing to go the extra yard for you. To be fair the 'Windermere' name is a touch misleading as it is 5-10 mins walk from town. The hidden bonus is the... More

Despite the name Windermere, this hostel is in a village called Troutbeck. This requires a five minute bus ride (£4.50 one way,£7 daily ticket) from the train station plus a 15 min walk uphill. So pack light. Once you get there, it is so worth it. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The dining room overlooks paddocks and the... More

Pros: Budget accommodation. Nice view from rooms. Self-catering facility is available. Cons: This is located on the outskirts of Windermere. If you don't have a car then its a long walk to the main road. Don't rely on Google maps / iOS maps for navigation. Rooms were just OK. Its advisable to book somewhere else. No option for double /... Hello - So sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us more. We are an out of town location, but set in a beautiful countryside setting and most guests rave about our amazing view over lake Windermere, which we think makes it worth the walk! If you come again and can't face the hike from the bus stop try... More

just spent 2 nights at YHA Windermere in a family room, 2 sets of bunk beds what fun! the hostel is in wonderful surroundings with plenty of outdoor grounds for the kids to explore. The evening food was lovely, home cooked and the kids eat free. The hostel had a real family feel and we were so relaxed, the kids... More

This is a great hotel, couldn't fault it. As a parent of a 2 and 6 year old it can be quite stressful to take the kids away from home overnight. But everything was thought of, including a (pre-booked) cot in the family room on arrival. The staff were vey friendly, they seem to multi-task a great deal, but always... More

I've just returned from a 3 night stay at the Hostel and as previews reviews have claimed, it is clean, friendly and perfectly located BUT the self catering facilities are dreadfully inadequate. There are two small fridges and ONE microwave!! I struggled to find fridge space for my chilled food and microwave access. Last night I waited for almost an... More

Hi Jan235, Thanks very much for taking the time to post a Review. Although there was nothing unusual with the hostel being completely full over the Easter weekend, what was very unusual this Easter was the large numbers of people that were self-catering. During times like Easter, Bank Holidays, Half-Terms, and August, it usually 'pans out' that about a third... More
