My wife and I stayed yet again at this lovely peaceful country house for five days last month. We've been staying since 2000 and have rarely stayed any where else when visiting the area. Paul was his usual charming and accommodating self, particularly as our first two nights stay there were when it was fully booked. So we were offered... More

Foxghyll a hidden delight set away from the main 'hustle and bustle' of Ambleside but close enough to walk into the center at leisure. Paul really is a wonderful host. Not intrusive or imposing. Warmed the room prior to our arrival, ensured that we had a torch for the walk back after dark and provided a delicious breakfast that set... More

Myself & my wife have stayed many times in the Lake District, but were so pleased to find Foxghyll. The house is absolutely fascinating. A lovely big manor house set in its own private grounds. The garden looked fantastic and is worth the stay alone. Inside there ate many antiques and interesting features to the original and unaltered architecture. The... More

This is a great little spot within walking distance of Ambleside and to the start of some great fell walks. This is a guest house with 3 rooms and not a hotel with a bar, grill and 24 hour porterage, so anybody looking for such a thing should go elsewhere. Marjorie the owner/operator has been doing this job for 30... More

A lovely, welcoming guest house with breathtaking surrounds and views. Our room was huge and very comfortable with stunning views. A peaceful stroll along the stream into Ambleside which is just a few minutes away. You couldn't ask for more.

We were booked into this B and B for work as it was in a superb location (nextdoor!!) to our Job. With a warm welcome and friendly hello we were shown to our room, a hugely generous size, "spa" room, with its on bathroom attached, a very good tea station stocked to the brim and clean bedding with colour TV.... Fox ghyll House has a fantastic location along a quiet road just away from the hussle and bussle of Ambleside town centre. The house is simply wonderful, large and roomy with fantastic views and access to the mountains that literally back onto the garden. The garden is just huge, we were lucky enough to experience a dry weekend, and could... More

What a find Foxghyll was. Myself and my wife have been visiting the Lakes for many years, and had vary degrees of quality and experience in the places we've stayed. However, we stumbled across Foxghyll on a beautiful walk from Ambleside, and were simply blown away by the size and beauty of the property and the rooms. The garden is... More

Had only one night's stay here but the setting is absolutely sublime! Views over Loughrigg are stunning, house itself is a treasure, rooms are large and spacious. Paul is a a very friendly chap, always willing to help or recommend a place to eat. I could have given this Guest House a much lower rating - it has been given... More

Enjoyed a superb few days here. Amazing, large rooms & The setting must be one of the most beautiful in the Ambleside area. The spring flowers and trees could not have been more beautiful--so large and rich, intense and vibrant. The view from the large sweeping gardens over the river and fells beyond is breath-taking. The road to Foxghyll is... More
