We had our FIFTH stay in this friendly hotel a few days ago. All the staff were as pleasant and helpful as usual, especially Jennifer and Joanne in reception. As always, the room was warm, comfortable and clean, this one overlooking the road and the lake. The food served was of a consistently high standard. Both breakfasts and dinners were... More

Not stopped here overnight but while on holiday called here for a drink. The place is grubby with dirty drinking glasses. Even a locals wet dog jumped up and put his paws on my lap then tried to get my husband's drink not what we expected and soon left! However can't comment on rooms but us set in a lovely... More

Just returned from a weeks stay in this lovely hotel. Great staff-very friendly and helpful, great food and a lovely room with the largest bed I've ever slept in! Breakfast was cooked to order and was faultless (delicious Cumberland sausage!) and kept us going on our daily walking expeditions, some days we walked straight from the door and on others... More

Have stayed here three times now. Comfortable, unpretentious and a bit old-fashioned. Nice food, from traditional roasts to more adventurous fish and veggie dishes. Great breakfast, friendly staff. Snug lounge bar, good public one. Three or four large tables outside for drinks or afternoon tea. Small well-kept garden. Dog friendly. Lots of walks nearby. Dinner bed and breakfast is good... More

Have been coming to the Skelwith for years. After a brief dip in standards a while back it si back to it's best. Visited recently for a special family birthday and the staff could not have been more attentive and accommodating. Rooms were very good and food excellent. Delighted to see the Talbot back in use as a proper "walker's... More

Just returned from another weekend in this dog friendly hotel . Although looking tired in some areas it was a lovely atmosphere as usual . Pleasant food in a restaurant overlooking a river . Drinking wine in a comfortable lounge with friendly guests with the dogs beside us . Great walks from easy flat ones along Elterwater to difficult ones... More

I have just returned from a wonderful weekend stay at the Skelwith Bridge Hotel. I travelled with my parents and we had booked 1 double and 1 single room for 2 nights on a B&B basis. The hotel's room appear to be named after local lakes and beauty spots and we were allocated 'Ambleside' (Double) and 'Easedale' (Single), which are... More

There is something very special about this hotel; it's authentic in every way. For those who are used to proper old fashioned excellent service which is honestly given by very caring staff, this is THE place. Hotels like this are few and far between – well done you, for finding it…! And that’s why so many of us, who could... More

Just had another (the fourth) weekend here with our walking group. Nice quiet location, helpful staff, large well-eqipped bedrooms, large comfortable lounges. Good choice of different courses for each dinner, all well prepared and an extensive menu at breakfast, cooked to order. Plenty of walking routes to choose from direct from the hotel (drying room available). Centrally located for touring... More
