We booked a 3 night dbb break via Travel Zoo and have just returned home after our best ever Spring holiday in the Lake District. The marvellous weather helped of course but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rothay Manor. Very welcoming and informative staff from front reception, restaurant and bar staff, to housekeeping staff all contributed to us feeling... More

I must say I loved this hotel. It's not modern or trendy in any way, but the staff are first class. The service is excellent, warm friendly and helpful from the outset. Residents get a reduced rate for dinner, from a well thought our menu and the food was thoroughly enjoyable. The wine list was good and sensibly priced and... More

My partner and I took advantage of the hotel's anniversary dinner offer-canapes,three courses coffee and petit fours at an attractive all-in price. The staff were friendly, the service exemplary and the food good (apart from the hard pastry on an otherwise superb lemon tart -a very minor criticism). Also noteworthy was a stunning NZ sauvignon blanc-one of the house whites. This was our second... Thank you for your review. Iam very happy you had an enjoyable stay and hope you will return again. I appreciate your comments with regard to our house wines, we always try and stock high quality house wines, and although we do charge a little bit more, £19 for a bottle, I think the quality does reflect in this price.... We to Ambleside and found the Rothay Manor where we would be staying for the next two nights. The desk clerk was very gracious and showed us up to our room which was quite large and very nice with a sitting area with love seat surrounded by two windows and a stunning view of one of the local fells. Making a last minute booking for a weekend break you might forgive the hotel staff for not taking a huge interest in you beyond ensuring they had a room? That is NOT the case here at Rothay Manor, there is a real sense of their having a personal interest in your experience being the very best that can be achieved.... More

We are a little late reviewing this hotel - we stayed in February 2012. We visited the weekend it snowed and the scenery was amazing. Can only say that our stay was excellent again. We really cannot fault it in any way. Excellent staff, beautiful food, outstanding rooms etc etc etc. Look forward to returning very soon. More

My wife and I stayed for two nights at Rothay Manor in a superior room with a balcony overlooking the garden. The receptionist, Janice was very welcoming and informative. We had eaten here before but never stayed. We were not disappointed. Our room was very cosy, spacious and relaxing. The two lounges were very comfortable for pre dinner drinks and... More

My husband and I stayed at Rothay Manor for two nights, 10th & 11th February on a Travelzoo deal and what a fabulous two days we had. My wife does not eat fish, eggs or pasta, and I had mentioned this when making the booking. Stayed in room 14 which is a superior, it has French doors onto a secluded side garden. The road next to it is quiet but might be busy in summer. The staff are absolutely brilliant and the food is very good. We have been in worse 5 star hotels. Great gardens and good situation for touring the lakes. Excellent character... More
