I had lunch here with family about ten days ago. We had not booked and were a bit dismayed on arrival to find almost all the tables reserved. I don't really expect a pub to do that but we were seated quickly between several reserved tables. It was 12.15 and I noted the tables were reserved for 1.30pm, what a... More

I was very much looking forward to staying here and I was not disappointed. I rang the day before as I was arriving in Winchester before check in time and asked could I leave my bags or check in early. I was told not a problem. When I arrived on a gorgeous sunny day, I loved the location. Right in... More

We had booked a table for 8pm, but on arrival were told our table was not ready. The previous diners were still eating, we were ushered to the bar and waited. After 20 mins my husband went to see what was going on, the table was still occupied. We were eventually seated at 8.45, not the best start to the... More

Dear guests, I'm sorry the experience on your recent visit wasn't up to scratch - regrettably the first sitting on your table overran considerably, and as we were very busy over the Bank Holiday weekend there simply wasn't anywhere else to seat your group. This did mean you had to wait some time to be seated and for this I... More

Great location very close to the cathedral and the square. It’s a very traditional inn with good food. We had three mains: pork escalope, salmon fillet and scampi. The total bill with three soft drinks came to £45.30. The service was good and I would recommend to book a table as it was very busy when we were there.

As part of a group of four we ate here on a Saturday evening. Fortunately we had booked because I don't think there would be any chance of getting a table at the weekend if you had not made a prior reservation. The place was very lively but in a pleasant, warm and welcoming way. We were shown to our... More

Right across the street form the Winchester Cathedral, The Old Vine is in a perfect location to also see the rest of that fabulous city, As a hotel, it is a wonderful place to stay. We can absolutely recommend the restaurant as we had an incredible dinner.

Dear guest, thanks for your review, we're pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. For future reference the quietest rooms are the Nina Campbell room, which is away from the bar; the Zoffany room, over the restaurant; the Design House suite (at the top of the building); and the Designers Guild Annexe (a self-contained apartment away from the main building).... We walked into the Old Vine on the off chance they had a table for lunch today and they did. What a find! The bar and restaurant were almost full at 12.30 and we were very lucky to get a table. Dear guest, thank you for your review, it's always a great pleasure to hear feedback from guests who have enjoyed their visits to the Old Vine. The bar and restaurant do fill up very quickly, particularly at weekends, so we would recommend getting to the Old Vine as soon as possible after 12 noon (when lunch service starts) to avoid... More

We had lunch at The Old Vine this last Saturday. Four adults. Service was friendly and drinks were served quickly. The ales were good. We ordered starters of chorizo patatas bravas, a feta salad and calamari. All three were fantastic and well cooked, particularly the chorizo dish, which was delicious. However, our main courses were more disappointing. Two of us... More

Dear guest, thank you for your honest and comprehensive review. I'm sorry that you were disappointed with the cod and chips on your visit. The cod fillets are delivered whole and fresh to us from our fishmonger on a daily basis, and the chef then skins the fish and cuts the fillets into portions for the day. They are not... More

We stayed in nine B&B's during a two week tour of England's countryside. This one had the biggest, best appointed room of all of them. Since I'm traveling with my brother, we booked twin rooms. Ours at The Old Vine had two large double beds--a bonus! Their service was tremendous. We had problems with our TV and James came to... More
