Lovely little hotel, great service!! Needs a little attention in the rooms especially the bathroom) , (we stayed in Room 7), very comfy 4 poster bed - but overall great stay with some lovely little shops to visit and great base to stay in the area. Very happy. More

We celebrated my 60th birthday at this fabulous hotel and its sister hotel 'The Grapevine' across the road with private dining for 19 guests. The level of service we received was excellent, a big thank you to Martin the Manager and his staff, especially Roger who looked after us throughout the evening. The food was exceptional and served at leisurely... More

We stayed for one night in the Maugesbury Suite and really enjoyed it. It is a room with lots of history and is very romantic. Many couples that have stayed have written small notes and stuffed them in the cracks on the old beams. We had fun reading them and contributing our own. The reception staff were very friendly and... This was in October 2011 (forgot to write a review!). We threw caution to the wind by deciding to visit the Stow on the Wold area without a hotel reservation (in the area for an evening 'owl sanctuary experience') and were pleased that the receptionist had a room available right away. We were taken to a small room (with a... More

My husband and I went to this hotel on a romantic break away from the kids. Instead of having a good nights sleep as we were hoping we had to sleepin a very small, overheated room with a tiny bed (smaller than a usual double). The mattress was so old it had no springs left and the carpet was stainedin... More

My husband booked the Royalist and i had already read about it in Trip advisor so tried to warn him when we arrived not to accept Room No 2. The hotel was very nice - nice food in the pub and the breakfast was gorgeous. and the service by the waiting staff was great. The reception staff were not too... More

The room was cosy and clean with a decent size bathroom. the breakfast was lovely. we ate in the Eagle and Child next door for ocnvenience as much as anything and it was very quiet which was a shame as the food was good and pretty good value. The Royalist was not a luxury break but for a reasonably priced... More

I planned a nice weekend break away and had such high hopes for the hotel after looking at the pictures on the website, they are very misleading to say the least. By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. After asking to change rooms my wife and I were given room number 2. On entering the room we... More

I was a bit concerned after reading some of the reviews of this hotel, however I was pleasantly surprised! We had a fantastic room (room 9), it was well decorated and full of character. The bathroom was nice too, clean and modern. The floor sloped and creaked and the corridors were narrow but that's part of the charm of this... More

Staff were very accomodating of me and my very pregnant wife.. we asked for 6 extra pillows and despite being full they made a plan and sorted it The place is incredibly old and there are a few compromises, but the bed was a great big 4 poster (it was a tad narrow and was probably a standard double) but...
