I took my husband to Jeakes House as a present for his 80th birthday. We had the Conrad Aiken suite which we had stayed in before and it is still just as wonderful. The accommodation in Jeakes House is absolutely superb; the service could not be better; the breakfast is something to die for; what else is there to say... More

Remember the `Hovis` advert on TV - the 19th century houses terraced down a steep cobbled street ? well Jeake`s house tops that. A 17th century ivy-clad, boxed-sashed, leaded-paned, windowed house set in prime position in the centre of the small fortified and antiquated town of Rye, overlooking the harbour where French raiding ships once scavenged along the `Cinque Ports`.... We loved the time spent in this wonderful property....everything was very creaky and full of character! The room was a good size, furnished quaintly, nice views from the many windows, the bed was comfortable (though headboard could do with clean), bathroom immaculate. The whole ambience of the public rooms was charming and we would have been happy to spend all... More

Jeake's Hotel turned out to be everything we hoped for. It is a very ancient building, lovingly looked after and wonderfully comfortable. Our room "Elder's Attic" was literally that up a very steep stair, but it was worth the climb. The bedroom was of a decent size as was the bathroom and all very nicely appointed. We slept very well.... More

This is my 3rd stay here at the "Treasure" that is Jeakes House. As my work takes me all around europe I have sampled "All" types of accomodation, But none comes close to the "Splendour" that is waiting for you at Jeakes. Jenny and Richard are the proud owners who I now count as my friends. Indeed all staff are... More

A lovely old house centrally located with plenty of excellent restaurants nearby. The rooms were tastefully furnished and lounge/bar area had plenty of board games ,daily papers and a well stocked honesty bar. The downsides were parking 10minutes walk away, steep stairs, creaky floorboards and rattling window panes. Our room "Apothecary" had a mantlepiece which could easily decapitate you and... More

This is the epitome of English 18th century style, with the advantages of fabulous ambiance but narrow winding staircase all the way up to your room. Not comfortable with 20 kilo suitcases! Our room was very small but the view from the top window was magic. Fabulous breakfast choices and a lovely bar with the "honesty" book where you keep... More

Our first impressions of Jeake's House were very positive and this continued over the 3 nights that we stayed there. Richard met us at the door and expertly directed us to the car-park, only a couple of blocks away from the house. It was £3 per day, but was well worth it, as parking appeared to be at a premium... We arrived at Jeake’s on Mermaid Street (probably the prettiest street in Rye), just after midday and were met with apologies that our suites (Conrad & Radcliffe Hall) were not quite ready for us, apologies appreciated but not necessary, this place was lovely and we were having a good time already! Richard continued the warm greeting by showing us around... More

A glorious, quirky bed and breakfast in cobbled Mermaid Street (don't even think about wearing high heels!) The owners are so lovely, the rooms are gorgeous, pretty old English feel, sloping ceilings, TV's and tea/coffee making facilities. En-suites in most rooms. The breakfast is superb! Have the full English, it will set you up for a leisurely stroll around this... More
