Stayed for one night. Room was clean and warm, the staff and proprietors were very friendly and helpfull and the food was plentiful and good. The following morning we attended a funeral at the near by crematorium and the after service wake as held at the Downs Hotel where the buffet food and drinks was excellent and again plentiful. Would... More

We stayed at this place for one night purely out of necessity as there was no other option available. We occupied rooms 10 and 11 and these rooms are not to be recommended. The only plus point was that the sheets appeared to be clean and the view was fabulous. Room 10 boasts 2 single beds but it so small... More

I stayed at this place for two nights. This is a basic establishement, so I was not expecting much. However, there are a lot of things that can be improved. The hotel is at a 4 way crossing, and the windows are not even double glazed so good luck for sleeping at night. One of the windows was broken, so... More

When I arrived at the Downs another traveller was complaining about the cold rooms, I assumed that as it was 2pm that by the time I got home from my Billy Conolly show in Brighton then the heating would be fixed, it wasn't I slept in my clothes and then some, I shivered all night long, it didn't matter it... I fully endorse with what the majority are saying. This place is awful! The only good point it has going for it is ample free parking. When first entering the bar it stunk of dogs and was very tatty and dirty.Rooms are appalling if you have to stay here don't accept the first room they offer you see if there is an... On first arrival this hotel is nothing like discribed on web site. It is a b/b not a Hotel. It is more for builders or trades men working away from home. Dont be fooled by what it says it is not in the country side it is on a busy main road with a 4 way junction. This B/B is... More

I stayed for one Friday night, the place was practically empty. As a single traveller I was given a single room, just as booked. The room was more like a prison cell, narrow and depressing. The single bed was the cheapest possible, a wooden base with a matress that had collapsed but the linen was immaculately clean. The shower is... More

My daughter booked us here for one night, so we could spend a weekend in Brighton. It is a traditional pub/hotel with character and a feeling of history, with good public transport almost on the doorstep. The staff and regulars are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Our room had lovely views and was clean and spacious. The beds were very comfortable... More
