We stayed here last Easter and were delighted with the choice of food and the service we got. Why not 5-rating? Minot issues were the heating in the rooms seemed to function, willing or not, so it got quite warm and it was already a quite warm Easter outside. Last thing is the small issue that on their website they... More

We wandered into the George Inn in Alfriston on Friday 7th January after a long walk across the Seven Sisters and a swim in the sea (more than a little bit cold!). There was a real log fire crackling away in the huge fireplace by the bar and the first pint of cider went down so well we decided, on... More

Full of character, the food was fantastic with quality and offerings far above typical pub food and the service was quick, helpful and considerate. We dined by a roaring fire. Our first room had a non-functioning radiator, and this was quickly remedied upgrading us to a suite. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. I would recommend that the rooms... More

We made a late in the day phone booking and as we had stayed in Alfriston before (at Wingrove House which was unfortunately full) we thought we'd try the George Inn. The staff member did not mention that there was no on-site parking (nor does there website as far as I can see) and we eventually found the 'park and... More

We can not recommend this hotel at all. The decoration is fading inside and out, the carpets are worn and the overall appearance is of neglect. The room we viewed was dirty and cold and seriously overpriced. We did not stay as a result. More

I really enjoyed this Inn. After a long day walking the South Downs Way, we were able to come in and get settled down, and it was less than a 2 second divertion up the high street from the track. It was quiet, but this wasnt a bad thing. The meal was fabulous, the service was quick and the room... More

Just back from a two night stay at The George for a family wedding in Eastbourne with the reception in Alfriston War Memorial Hall. My wife and daughter booked the George after viewing on the web some months ago. Arrival was going to be late as we were travelling on a Friday but that presented no problems to the staff.... More

The one thing that truly distinguishes The George is the quality of the service and attention to detail. We stayed in 3 rooms during one week. Initially we moved because we extended our booking and then when we pointed out a noisy fan we were moved into the suite without our asking, at the same rate as the cheaper of... More

I do not understand those earlier critical reviews. Perhaps some guests have chronic dyspepsia. In the George I got exactly what I wanted for my one night stay - a friendly welcome, comfortable bedroom, two excellent meals, in an unspoilt, cosy and comfortable old country hotel. I am partially disabled and sometimes need to ask for help - at the... More

We spent 3 nights here with our daughter in'The Suite' . Our bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in and we had the advantage of some privacy as our 11 year-old daughter was in a separate area. Breakfasts were great with a good choice of well-cooked food and the usual juices and cereals. Staff were... More
