Friendly welcome from reception. Nice lounge area. Dining Room and hotel guest bar was pleasant although a little dated in decor all were very clean. We paid for a sea view room with balcony, and it was a large room again with very dated furniture and furnishings (70's...or earlier!). The view from the room was great but the balcony looked out over the Upper Deck Restaurant Decking, so when people sat or stood outside they could look straight into the room (there were net curtains though). The twin room also had a small table and chairs, and coffee/tea making facilities and in the cupboard an iron and ironing board. There was a hairdryer too. The bedlinen was crisp and white and clean, as was the rest of the room apart from the odd spot on the carpet and the beige carpet looking a little grey in places. The bed was a little hard though. The bathroom was fully tiled, all in 70's Avocado with the bath suite the same colour. The BIG problem was that there didn't seem to be any really nice HOT water, certainly not enough for a bath. By the time the water was in the bowl in the wash handbasin it was barely warm, so we had to make do with very speedy cool showers. I read a comment somewhere that the hotel had a funny smell in the corridor. This was true, but it was only in the background and wasn't in the rooms. The Hotel bar on Saturday night was great, there was a live band (very good) and dancing. The bar staff were really great. The Upper Deck Restaurant (Fine Dining), was very modern contemporary furniture with great views of the sea. The food was excellent too. The price wasn't too bad either and the service was great, with a nice relaxing atmostphere. The breakfast in the hotel dining room was really nice too, with plenty of choice both on the buffet and to order. I read a review about this hotel that said it was awful but it certainly wasn't awful. I know I can't vouch for the other bedrooms of course, but for us it was an average british sea-side 2/3-star hotel with great staff. If you want contemporary up-to-date furniture and a swish hotel foyer and dining room - then you need to pay the cost. We paid £272 for 2 nights on a Bank Holiday Saturday/Sunday. If I had wanted a more luxurious place the costs were £400 - £1000 for 2 nights at other hotels in the area..... so I guess you get what you pay for. We probably wouldn't go back but it was good enough for a last minute short break.

The day before arrival they phoned to say the room booked was already occupied. After complaining they then rang back 15 minutes later and said it was sorted OK. They then rang 2 hours later to say could we change rooms as our room was occupied. My wife relunctantly agreed. I emailed to complain to the owners but have not had any reply after 2 weeks and I am not expecting a response. On arrival we went in the changed room and they offered to move us the next day if we wanted. Neither room was good so we stayed where we were. Old carpets, double bed in alcove where you had to move sideways to get in to bed as not enough space either side of the bed, cobwebs on ceiling above bed, window could possibly fall off with rusty stiff hinges. Small portable TV 16 inch ( no remote) so when you were in bed you could hardly follow the tennis at Wimbledon. Bathroom very dated, cold tap loose and swivelled round when you used it! Toilet flush stuck so water just kept running. Shower control hopeless to operate. Staff in restaurant were quick, pleasant and efficient. Food choice limited and basic standard with old cutlery. Views over the sea were good due to hotel position near cliff top. We paid 65 pounds each for double room, bed and breakfast and 2 eveing meals. Bill was 475 pounds total - not good value for an old hotel.

This Hotel is a disaster, don't stay there. The rooms are dated and the beds are so old the springs stick in your back. There is a terrible smell in the corridors and best of all half the rooms are directly over the live music bar. If you want to be kept awake for half the night then this is the place for you. Everthing about this hotel is screams budget do yourself a favour and stay in a travel lodge or a B&B
