We have just spent 2 nights at The Idle Rocks Hotel and it was great. Only wish we could have stayed longer. Room was nicely furnished and clean and the food in the restaurant was "out of this world". The staff were very friendly and helpful. We hope we will be able to visit this hotel again. Very good value... More

To be honest I haven't been into the Idle Rocks at Lunchtime for quite a few years - even though I live in St Mawes. I took my mother out to lunch (as its easy to park outside and flat walking for her!). We went on a Saturday lunchtime early May; the sun was shining and St Mawes looked perfect.... More

Had lunch recently. Lovely view of the harbour. Pleasant waitress (although her English was poor). Food was good overall, although my fish platter was more batter than fish. My son said that his seafood with noodles was very good - but hardly any noodles, so left him hungry. My husband said his 'Bangers and Mash was good, but not enough.... More

Attracted by the beautiful position overlooking the harbour, we had dinner here on a quiet evening midweek in April. The menu has rather overblown descriptions of the food (e.g sauces with "textures" of thyme - whatever that means) but would have probably tasted better than the fish we were served. A tiny scrap of leather on a huge plate decorated... More

I was surprised by the more negative reviews here as this did not reflect my experience at all. The hotel is situated with uninterupted views across St Mawes harbour over the Roseland Peninsula and is a great place to sit and watch the boats. We had booked for lunch and were welcomed by friendly staff and given a great table... More

Had Easter Sunday lunch at the hotel. The food quality was ok, but the portions were minute. You would need at least 5 courses for a decent meal. I had a soup for the starter which was nice, but the portion would fit in a teacup. No bread, and when I asked I got two small pieces that were something... More

During a short stay in St Mawes, we dined twice in this hotel. The meal was superb on both occasions, very tasty and a feast for the eyes. The staff were most attentive. If we return to St Mawes, we will definitely stay at this hotel More

Love Sunny day so decided to have lunch on the ideally located terrace.very shabby tables and chairs so not really a luxury expereince .how on earth did the chef manage to serve a gnocchi which was both over cooked ( inedible sundried tomato ) and.undercooked ( rest of vegetables ) ? I would be embarrassed to call myself a chef... More

We recently booked a 3 night break at the Idle Rocks as part of a week's trip to Cornwall for our silver wedding anniversary. On arrival we were shown to our fantastic room, Waxwing. with its double aspect french doors/windows and absolutely beaautiful views. We ate in the first class restaurant and cannot rave enough about the food. Although the... More

We have just spent one night at the Idle Rocks and found it a pleasing experience, the room was quite small (Curlew) and the electrical equipment dated but the general appearance was very nice. On arrival we were told there was no available parking in the small hotel car park and were also told we couldn't arrange to occupy the... More
