I have stayed in this hostel a number of times and have seen the place improve considerably over my visits. It's a very friendly and sociable hostel, its the cheapest place I know to stay in Chester and at £15 a night for the dorm with free wifi, it's cheaper than most other hostels around the Uk. I have no... More

This was my second stay at Chester Backpackers. The place has been refurbished, repainted, and scoured. It is an old, old building with narrow, steep stairs--so don't expect a personality-less facility. The charm of the place and the friendliness of Al, the manager, make it an ideal base in Chester. We booked and paid in advance for 2 nights but after arriving we cancelled the 2nd night and now have been refused a refund by a very rude manager/owner. The hostel was not as advertised on the internet site, our room was up several flights of very narrow, winding stairs, very intrusive road noise inside, and overall the hostel was... More

It is regrettable that you feel this way about staying at Chester Backpackers Hostel. It is neither our policy to deceive or offer delusions of grandeur with regard to the service we provide. We enjoy a 2 star rating controlled by a Visit Britain adjudicator and deliver exactly that with many free services for our guests to enjoy. We have... More

This place is what we wanted, went on a university society tour and needed nothing more. We were able to have fun without being complained about, sit out on the terrace at night times and were only a little way away from the town centre which was great. Owners were friendly and kitchen facilities were good. Would recommend for this... More

Lovely hostel. Cheap and cheerful. The manager was very welcoming and helpful. As far as budget accomodation goes this suited my needs perfectly. The dormitory room was bright and colourful and the ensuite had been fully refurbished. Would recommend to anyone wanting a good place to stop for the night ! More

I found this backpackers very helpful. It's close proximity to the city centre and rail station very useful. Clean and very friendly I had a very enjoyable stay with residents and staff on my two day stay, and even was invited to a delightful Sunday dinner by the manager, cooked by himself. A true hospitaliy hostel. Thanks again! More

We were a large group of girls with a mixture of rooms and the 18 bed dorm. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly and polite manager of the hostel who briefly shown us round the accommodation. It was basic and expected however the exterior was very dirty and negleted. The kitchen and lower landing was so smelly... More

12 of us hired out the sub-par 18bed dorm at this backpackers hostel for two nights for our stag do accommodation. It served its purpose. We were in Chester to party all night and just needed a roof over our heads for when we crashed. The hostel toilet and washing facilities on the basement level weren't overly clean, although the...
