I was due to stay at Pennies of Chester this coming weekend, but when I discovered that the staff don't live on site I decided to cancel - that was on 10 December 2008 and I am still waiting for my refund!

Pennies guest house is a very clean and very basic house that is shared by the guests; the bathroom is shared as is the kitchen. Breakfast is a DIY affair and the seating arrangements are uncomfortable. The bed was worse. It had two pieces of chipboard giving the matress support so when I lay down my hip fell down between the gap. I had problems walking the following day! The landlady's attitude was brusque to say the least; a take-it-or-leave it attidude. She basically turns up, shows you around, takes your cash, give you a key and disappears. If you want this type of accommodation you're better off at a youth hostel; at least there the price reflects the product. For a comfortable bed and hot breakfast look elsewhere. When I paid for my room no registration was done and no receipt offered. Any inland revenue people reading this?

we booked pennies guest house for the bank holiday weekend. our kids had gone to my parents,,, so we were really looking forward to chilling. we arrived at pennies, 18, queen street , chester and found that no-one was there to let us in. we went and paid £8.00 for parking for 4 hrs... which we were told we would have free parking on arrival. we went for a walk and kept calling back to pennies over 4 hrs to try to be let in,,,, nothing. then after what seemed like a month a man appeared who was staying there and let us in, we had been phoning the owner and all we got was the voicemail... eventually we made contact and she arrived to let us into our room. when i booked @ Laterooms i booked a double room with parking.... oh no to my horror she opened the door which used to be the living room and there they were to my horror twin beds,,, the room was so narrow that there was one bed at one end of the room and one at the other. i checked 3 times that this was to be a double room and was assured at all times. well she said go find somewhere else... OH YEAH RIGHT... ON A BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND IVE MORE CHANCE BUMPING INTO TOM CRUISE IN THE PUB... anyway folks what should have been a romantic weekend turned into abit of a let down... CHESTER WAS WONDERFUL THOUGH AND WE WILL DEFINITELY BE RETURNING... just hope the plaza is not booked up. thankyou for reading my review and take care. rachael,,,,, barnsley, south yorkshire.
