We stayed at the Tsunami Backpackers for 3 nights and found it a very nice place to stay. It's a bit of a walk from the bus drop-off if you don't have a car, but considered the size of Port Alberni, it's quite close. Our host was great and helped us where he could (cardboard for hitchiking, where to spot... More

Recently myself and three travel partners stayed at this guest house for one night. We arrived late on a wet night and were immediately welcomed in by Wolf and encouraged to make ourselves at home. The house and furnishings are basic but provided everything we needed for a comfortable and affordable stay. Using Wolf's fresh out of the garden and... More

My kids are already begging to return. Wolf made our stay extraordinary with freshly picked plums upon our arrival and raspberries he let the kids help pick on our departure. Our host was warm and helpful; he even made coffee for us at 6:30am! More

I stayed here 2 years back enroute to Tofino and this year as well, the Tsunami Backpackers guest house was my top choice. Reasons - 1) Best price. 2) Safe. 3) Well-kept 4) Homely atmosphere. 5) Good food - home baked bread is awesome (give 4 hours notice), home made jam and home grown fruits are lovely :) Staying in... This guesthouse is a very quiet place. Very hard to find from the road (we arrived by night), you're not sure you're at the right place until you meet the host ! Then, everything is really pleasant. The house itself is really cozy and clean. The breakfast is very cheap, it's good (try the home-made bread and jam !). And... More

Tsunami Backpackers Guesthouse is a perfect stopover for anyone making the long drive from Vancouver to Tofino. After a tiring day at work and a crowded ferry ride, we arrived in Port Alberni very late on Friday night. Our host, Wolf, was welcoming and gracious despite the late hour of our arrival and made us feel right at home. The... More

My wife and I stayed here over Labor Day weekend on our way to Tofino. We were a little bit hesitant to stay here at first based on the bad review left by a previous poster, but we decided to try it out anyways. As it turns out, the place was clean, and the host was a really nice guy.... More

The hostel was clean and welcoming. Great movie gallery, fresh fruit, and home made food, awesome host!! And it also had food and good coast. We would recommend anyone to go, we had an awesome experience there, and will be going back if ever back in that area. More

Like some one before us wrote, it was as if no one lived there. Everything was old and not clean. The owner did not want us to show the rooms, we had to pay first (because we booked the room). After we payed and saw the house, included the room, we left. No hospitality at all More

I have stayed here once a year for the past 3 years. It's a house rather than a regular hostel, but it's homey; the owner Wolf is super-friendly; and the food is great. Tell Wolf the night before what time you would like your freshly baked bread ready, and there it will be the next morning! He has a huge... More
