I loved staying at the family run Hotel El Fuerte. Walking into the hacienda every time is a treat as you can see art, and furniture that Silvia has collected for decades from all over Mexico. If you are an art lover, this will not disappoint. In fact, I found it much more interesting and high quality than the museum... More

Recommended by the 3 Amigos. Arrived late and tired. Welcome less than overwhelming. Shown to stiffling hot room on the top floor. No information in the rooms and no obvious chance of getting a cold drink in the hotel so we turned on the aircon and went for a walk in the town square. Finally came across a small bar/restaurant... This hotel is very beautiful and a great find in the area. However, the beds were officially the worst I have ever slept on while traveling. I was in room 17 with two double bed and slept on each one with no avail. I woke up constantly having to shift around because it was so uncomfortable. There are no heaters... More

The Hotel El Fuerte, in the city of the same name, is a rare find. Located near the town square and cathedral the heart of the hotel is a 300 year old hacienda. It has been expanded and modernized many times and now is an eclectic first class hotel. The modern rooms vary in size so the guests cannot be... More

This place is a 350 yr old spanish hacienda converted to a hotel. It's beautiful! And they have a restaurant on site for breakfast. See our photos as part of our entire Copper Canyon trip, hotel photos are in the beginning. http://www.flickr.com/photos/strangebird/sets/72157625170407748/ We started our Copper Canyon train journey from El Fuerte. Pretty little Colonial town, not much to do,... More

Beautiful, comfortable hotel. A wonderful experience. Lots of genuine artwork and collectables for decoration. A rooftop view of the city and sky at night. Also, food was good! More

If you like a lot of junk you will like this place. A true collector of Mexican Artesanias with a few of other countries thrown in, but it is nicely displayed. Great location. The rooms were clean and the beds hard, but I still had a good night sleep. No food since we were the only ones in the hotel.... More

we arrived on sept. 26, 2009 and stayed two nights. we found the room very comfortable and once the AC was turned on it was really nice since it was 102 outside. there was only one other couple in the hotel so it was really quiet. the hotel is on the edge of downtown just down the street from the... This is a real gem of a hotel and well worth seeking out. We stayed for just one night and loved the bright Mexican furnishings, vibrant colours and lively ambiance. We wished we could have stayed another day - exploring El Fuerte would have been fun. Our room was very adequate although the bed was very hard. Like most hotels... More

If you are touring the Copper Canyon on your own, staying at the El Fuerte hotel will be one of the highlights of your trip. This is a wonderful place for those who like some character in their surroundings and excellent value. This 300 year old hacienda has all the mod cons you require ... large clean rooms and bathrooms,... More
