Stratford morphed from a railway town into a renowned theatre destination with the Stratford Festival which draws Shakespeare fans, mostly repeaters, from a wide section of Canada and the midwest U.S.A. In the heart of the town, a block from the core and one of the three theatres, is the historic Stratford Hotel. Built in 1875, the small two-storey stone... More

I had the misfortune to stay here in October 2010 while visiting family and friends. I was a solo female guest. I really don't know where to start... but please read on - the place is run down, the 'English garden' is an empty plot full of cigarette ends, my room was grubby and shoddy (Room 4) and there is... I usually plan my trips to Stratford months in advance, but on a recent last-minute trip, the Stratford Hotel was the only place I could find a room. That should have been my first clue that something is awry at this hotel. It bills itself as "historic" and "quirky," but really it is a sloppily restored old building with many... More

Stratford is loaded with theatre goers in the summer and we were lucky to get accomodation on 3 days notice. The hotel has been redecorated in soft greens with lovely brocade bedspeads and curtains - attractive. My friend had previously stayed here and noted the improvement but it's not worth the price of $139 for a room and $169 for... More

My friend and I spent a weekend last fall in fabulous Stratford and enjoyed our stay at the historic and quirky Stratford Hotel. The location is really outstanding. It is within easy walking distance to all the downtown shops and restaurants as well as the river and all it has to offer. You really can't beat the location for the... More

We had a confirmed and paid reservation at The Stratford Hotel for over a month prior to our scheduled stay in Stratford, but The Stratford Hotel cancelled us by phone, without warning, only 4 days before our stay ,claiming they were doing renovations to our room. They sent us to the Festival Inn, as there were no other hotels available... More

The note in the hotel room read “The hotel is a designated Heritage Building and as such has definite character and quirks.” The “character and quirks” would be fine if we had paid half the price. However, for our triple room we paid over $200.00 with the taxes and this room is not worth anywhere near that. While we realize... More

A gem in the heart of Stratford - walking distance to all thre Theatres. (Festival, Avon & Tom Patterson) minutes from picturesque Avon River & it's swans-surrounded by interesting restaurants. Rooms have old world charm but enough modern conveniences to be comfortable. As a female travelling alone, the deadlock bolt system made me feel very safe. Friendly helpful staff -... More

Desk staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. The location is perfect - so close to the Avon theatre, shopping and dining. Free parking too. Breakfast voucher for the diner next door is an unexpected treat. But our "suite" was shabby, and at times, not even adequate. No one mans the desk between 9 pm and 9 am, so when... More

My husband and I recently spent our anniversary, July 1st at this hotel. After looking at on-line reviews I specifically chose this hotel because of its old-world charm. It's more than 130 years old with very pleasant and comfortable updates. Centrally-located within walking distance to the waterfront, threatres, shops and restaurants. Our stay included an air-conditioned suite which included breakfast... More
