Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Where do I begin.... I should preface this by noting I am a Calgarian and Banff is always great for a quick mini holiday. I have stayed at this hotel multiple times. It USED to be my favorite. I will NEVER stay here again, and I will never recommend this hotel to any family, friends, or coworkers. Firstly, we booked this hotel months ago, we put in a request to be close to my brother who travelled from Houston and booked another room. When we stayed here in November for our anniversary, we confirmed the request and the front desk staff assigned rooms for when we arrived them this March. Then, the day before we arrived I called around 5pm and confirmed the reservation, as well as confirmed the request for close/conjoined rooms. The person I spoke to CONFIRMED that our rooms had been assigned and we'd have a smooth check-in. When we arrived, that was not at all the case and the front desk staff said "its subject to availability and we don’t have availability".... I get that, but I confirmed the day before... K fine, it is what it is. We’re here and we’ll make the best of it. Then we requested a smaller quieter corner if possible as we were travelling with our 2-year-old. They said there was nothing available aside from the room we were given (room 208). And the 2 nights that we slept there we got ZERO sleep. We were 2 rooms down from the lobby entrance and facing the common area. We heard people yelling, partying and at one point someone vomiting outside our door consistently at all hours of the night, both nights. I am all for having a good time. But hotel staff did NOTHING to shoo people into quieter areas, the lobby, or their rooms. Additionally, we stayed during the week.. I can only imagine if we had this much of a party central mid-week, that the weekends must be next level.. Also, if you're a small family or looking for a relaxing soak in the hot tub (which is really cool, its a grotto type hot pool) don't bother with this one. Well, that’s not true, we used it in the morning and it was much more relaxing. But in the evening? Party. Central. And again - I am all for having a good time, but party animals down screaming and yelling with open beers - one guy even had a glass 40oz of whiskey with him, when its clearly noted on the door of the hot pool "no alcohol allowed and absolutely no glass allowed". Zero disregard for anyone else, like at least use some discretion and put your drink in a yeti.... and yet again, the staff were no where to be found. Clearly the management has no care for the enjoyment of ALL guests. If you're looking to party this is a GREAT hotel to book. If you're looking for a relaxing mountain getaway. This is NOT the place for you. Save your money and stay somewhere else. The minor things that broke the camels back... the beds are hard, the pillows are too fluffy, the hotel bar (Chili's) closes at 9:45pm on the weekdays (11pm on weekends). The hotel is clearly tired and needs a little love. I used to really enjoy this hotel. But never again will I stay here. Overall, it was a huge disappointment and I left more tired than I arrived, and not because of the mountain sports, but because I felt like I was staying in a frat house. Too bad, because we’ve stayed here a number of times and will never return again.

What a wonderful hotel and the people are so nice so convenient. I definitely would stay there again sorry I don’t have any pics to share but it was awesome and then go to Chili’s right there and see Sam he is great. Easy walk or free bus down to the town center of Banff.

Very good size for a ski hotel suite. 2 x double suite more than big enough for 2 adults + up to 2 children. Hotel service is prompt and clean. Reception are helpful and really know the area. Really useful agreement in place for snow equipment hire delivery to and pick up from reception. Only 5 minutes walk to town centre. Quite quiet location on Banff Avenue, but still close enough to everything you need. Come out of the door of the hotel and soak in some of the most stunning scenery in the world. Helps having Chilis in the hotel as well.

This is the second time I have been to the Fox. The first time I came I stayed in a regular room and it was TINY so this time I splashed out on a loft suite. Very nice accommodations - had a gas fireplace and balcony, a sofa and two TVs and the kitchenette had a fridge microwave, coffee maker and utensils. The bed was huge and comfy and I love the Rocky Mountain Soap toiletries. Only setback was that It was a little dusty and not as clean as I would have hoped. But they did allow us early check in became it was my birthday - so maybe they had less time to flip the room. the bedding was very clean - it was really just the floor and shelving units that could have done with a bit more love. The Grotto hot tub is SO cool and worth a visit. It has a chilies restaurant attached to it as well which is convenient. The fitness room is VERY basic. This hotel is a bout a ten min walk from where the main strip starts in Banff.

A returned guest. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Waitresses at the bar, great work. Waitresses at the restaurant, need to improve their promptness or even acknowledge the guest would be nice. Rooms have not changed over the years but it is time to update them. They are dated and are worn. Old carpet, debts and tile fallen off. Yes, the stairwells are a bit dangerous (slippery) With that said, love the size and comfy bed. It would have been nice to get a “doggie” welcome package which we have gotten in the past.

We booked through the hotels website. The room (superior suite,2 level) was so run down my child kept saying the room was busted, he wasn’t wrong. sofa bed broken, stained furniture, scratches and dents, railings not secured to the wall. I called the front desk night we got in and they told me the hotel is going to go through a reno soon and unless it affects my stay not to worry about the damage-it was so bad I was concerned I would lose my deposit. Wasn’t worth the $440/night (holiday weekend). My child slipped and fell down the stairs from the ice on the steps that hadn’t been maintained.

The Fox is consistently good amidst overpriced hotels in Banff. The rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. The decor is very nice and the linens, pillows, mattress and towels were all very good quality. The bathrooms even have Rocky Mountain Soap products, which we love (not great for people who have fragrance allergies). We also love the underground grotto hot pool, which is a nice size, and there are plenty of towels in the changing room for the hot pool, which I really appreciate. The only cons I can think of is the underground parking was quite cramped, the TV's in the rooms are very small, and there is no air conditioning (not a problem for us but might be tricky in the summer). Highly recommend walking down the street to Whitebark Cafe for breakfast - great quality products & coffee.

Great Hotel and clientele, I unknowingly lost my airbuds in the garage. Another guest found them and turned them in to the front desk lost and found. How often does that happen? It was super cold during our trip but the room was nice and cozy. The staff was top notch for saving my airbuds.

Was really excited to book into this hotel as it looked lovely online. However, from the moment we went to reception it all went downhill. The French female receptionist was haughty and condescending. I later spoke to the male receptionist and he was very helpful We were in a standard room that was dark and depressing. The carpet was stained as was the sofa. There was no aircon and it was really hot inside. I asked reception for another fan and to be fair it was there by the time I’d got back to the room. All in all I think all the rooms need a refurb as it seems to be stuck in the 60’s. They have obviously spent money on the bar/restaurant as that is a lot more modern. The bar and restaurant is a really nice area and the food was very good and fairly priced Haven't yet been to the cave pool and hot tub
