If you enjoy a basic room in a great location in Old San Juan than go to 205 Guest House. The older gentleman who stays there was just that, a gentleman. Yes, it is bare bones, but where can you stay in a secure place for such a great price. I had hot water when I took a shower. The... More

Very bare bone accommodations and I'm an experienced budget traveler. The shared bathroom had no hot water when I was there and I stayed in a room with no window or AC. It does have a good location and the price is very affordable. I thought the manager Vincente was pretty grumpy the times we interacted. As I was leaving,... More

I have to agree with previous posters, I thought the location was perfect for travelers on foot as it was close to shopping, restaurants, bars and attractions in Old San Juan. I found that Vincente (Manager/Owner) and his father to be both helpful and friendly. However, for most travelers, I would assume the accommodations were of the bare bones type.... More

The number to contact Castro's is: 787-722-5436. I have stayed here many times and have always enjoyed the friendliness of the owners and the excellent location in downtown old San Juan. The building is older, but the facilities are kept clean and security is good with locks on exterior and room doors. Recommended for any economy traveller.

The location is probably impossible to beat- in my opinion this is easily the best area in San Juan to stay. Castro was really kind (particularly if speak Spanish). My BFF and I stayed in a lovely room on the second or third floor, in a streetside room. We had a really nice balcony, but you will definitely hear street... More

Great location and amazing value! Late checkin wasn't a problem. Its a very very bare bones place, but it's well kept, Castro is an incredibly friendly guy, though if you don't know any Spanish communicating can be difficult. I traveled with 2 other people we got a room with 2 beds and a futon for $16/night each, you literally can't... More

This place and the Fortaleza Guest house down the street (didnt stay there) might be the only options for the budget traveller in San Juan, and they may be the only reasonably priced things in the whole Old San Juan area, so thank god they still exist. The balcony rooms are 35$ and are huge even for two people, one... More

I arrived at around 11:30pm on a Wednesday (after calling to let them know I'd be running late after missing my flight) and was shown one of the small rooms with a "window"- but not the famous balcony room. It was extremely muggy that night so I asked for a room with A/C, which wasn't a problem. The next night... More

These reviews are pretty accurate with the exception of the exposed wires in the bathrooms...not sure what thats about. I had the room with the double balcony facing the main road, made for lovely mornings, and excellent evening views. I spend very little time in my room when I travel, this place gave me everything I needed and a huge... More

Stayed in Puerto Rico en route to the Domincan Republic on both ends of our vacation. Booked 2 different hostels-both in Old San Juan. Castro's is located just above a nightclub that is open until 4am and you feel as though you are trying to sleep inside the night club. I would only recommend this place to young partygoers that...
