We stopped in one morning on a visit to the village to get refreshments. We had a scone with clotted cream and jam, carrot cake and teas. Gorgeous cakes, so moist and the scone was really good. Its great value if you park as you get the parking costs back from your meal. The staff were lovely and everywhere was... More

Two couples touring UK/Wales for month. Planned hiking and touring Wye Valley area. Great location for hikes. Room was large and clean. It was good value for the money. Nice view of Abbey ruins. The Inn is in need of general maintenance and upgrading. Felt a little sorry for the staff as the owners appear to be heading to tear... More

Just been here for a wedding reception. Staff were brilliant and could not have looked after us better. We were greeted with Bucks Fizz and a smile and check in was swift and efficient. Food at the reception was excellent. Over all, the hotel is tired. Our room (No 1) was exactly what I expected for the price however the... More

We had a lovely Sunday lunch in the restaurant! It was good value and good quality, with plenty of nicely cooked veg. The waitresses were friendly and very helpful, offering the bar menu as an alternative, for one of our party. The situation of the hotel is idyllic, opposite the Abbey ruins. I am tempted to book a room and... More

We were there at the same time as "Sean D" and remember the water incident in the dining room. Yes, the rooms are a bit tired, it is a very old building. We were at the back of the building and had the barrels being changed through the night for the event taking place (thought it was the Rotary Club),... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Situated in the heart of the wye-valley, the Abbey Hotel sits proudly in an area of outstanding natural beauty with astounding views of the infamous Tintern Abbey and woodlands of the wye-valley. Dating back to the early 1800’s, references of the hotel can be found as early as 1804 when the landlord of the Beaufort Inn, as it was previously named, would hold the key to the gate of the Abbey and augment his income by admitting visitors and conducting tours. The area originally occupied by the Abbey was much larger than it is today. The precinct wall followed the lane that runs along the back of The Abbey Hotel and its remnants can still be seen to this day. In order to cater for the growing tourism trade within Tintern and the Wye-Valley as a whole, the hotel has been vigorously upgraded throughout History with keys dates including initial extensions dating back to 1910. Along with these very upgrades the name has also been subject to change and has evolved from The Beaufort Inn, The Beaufort Inn Hotel, The Beaufort Hotel and most recently the Abbey Hotel. ... more   less
