My fiance and I camped here while visiting the Grand Canyon. It was late March and very cold! We woke up to an inch of snow the first morning. There wasn't very many campers due to the cold weather so the campground was not busy. I did give it only four stars because, had it been July, it would have... More

This summer, we car/tent camped at the Mather Campground while visiting the Grand Canyon. It was very inexpensive. We were allowed to bring our dog, as long as he was leashed. The spots were SUPER close to each other, so if you have quiet neighbors, it is fine but you are right on top of each other. The park was... More

We booked online (recreation.gov) and check-in was quick and easy, and friendly. We stayed three nights here, in a tent pitch which was clean, shady and not too far from the loos. Tents are mixed in with RVs, generators can be noisy, but everyone near us respected the evening curfew. Each pitch had a picnic table and fire pit. The... More

To improve your chances of enjoying Grand Canyon and Mather Campground, do yourself the favor of expecting crowds and arriving early. These are very big, busy places. I stayed the maximum of 7 nights in a tent and enjoyed almost all of that time. It's unfortunate that, in these times, a site like Mather is used as an overnight stop... More

We rented an RV from Cruise America and the Grand Canyon was our first stop. We stayed at Mather Campground for 2 nights. The campground is primitive in nature; that is to say there are no hookups, water, etc. if you have an RV. However, there are showers, restrooms and dishwashing stations, all of which were exceptionally clean and well... More

The Mather Campground is by far the best place to stay at the Canyon on a budget. It is quite large; the campsites are both treesy and spacious. Soft ground for tents; few bugs;good access to clean water; typically quiet; 2 minutes from the village grocery store and 5 minutes from the major Canyon trailheads. The only downside is it... More

Great value camping - we had a tent. Originally booked for two nights but arrived on the first night to a very bad storm and monsoon rain and so decided not to pitch and slept in the local lodge instead. Campsite is well situated in the Grand Canyon Village with shops, bank, post office and restaurants all a short walk... More

Elk roam freely, awesome! Location! Location! It was around $20-25 for camping at the canyon, can't beat that, not even with a stick. More

We stayed at Mather Campground in August 2011 for 3 nights. The site was spacious and just a very short walk to the bathrooms. When we wanted to shower, we had to drive down to the camper services building which was just a few minutes down the road. The showers cost $2 for 8 minutes. Each campsite had a fire... More

Considering the scale of the operation we were really impressed with Mather campground. The sites ensure a good deal of privacy and are never too far from the facilities blocks. Great views of bats and ravens from the site and mule deers strayed into the site further on. A very good option close to the heart of all the South... More
