Hubby was keen to go here, he wanted us to have a wilderness experience, I was a little nervous. How much is usually his question, but he insisted we do it. What an amazing experience it was and we were all sad when we had to leave. A kayak trip, rainforest walk, feed the eels, checking out the hydro electric... More

Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki was the highlight of our trip and thank goodness we stayed 2 nights. The location is remote, which leads to wonderful nature walks, glow worm adventures and kayak trips. I am not the hiker in the family but I truly enjoyed every walk and talk Gerry could provide. We also experienced wonderful dinners, excellent food and... More

I have just had another special night with Ann and Gerry in their spectacular rainforest. We had just had rain at last and the birds were celebrating all around. Thanks to careful management by DOC and advocacy by Gerry we have an incredible refuge on the mainland for our forest species and our precious penguins. In my room I felt... More

We stayed two nights wile on a bicycle trip. This gave us time to really enjoy the great foot, wonderful atmosphere, the lake, walks in the rain forest, seeing glow worms and Gerry's "long walk". Anne and Gerry have made this a really relaxing place to visit. We took several treks and the kayaks onto the lake to watch birds... More

We stayed 2 nights coming from the sister property at Arthurs' Pass. Magic location down to Lake Moeraki, and two canoe trips on the lake was wonderful, especially as we were blessed with the most beautiful weather. The lodge has access to some hard to-get-to places, we visited the fur seal beach with Gerry, and had a very memorable morning,... More

Location is superb if traveling to Queenstown and need a place to stay between Franz Josef and there. Lodge is lovely and good chance to enjoy the environment. Food was so so but after all the great meals in New Zealand that was ok too. A little to much togetherness for my taste --- group nature walks and intros at... More

Anne and Gerry have created an amazing hotel / lodge / eco-friendly destination at Lake Moeraki. The hotel is in the rainforest about 1.5 hours south of Franz-Josef. The lodge caters to travelers who want to know more about nature, the Rain Forest, geology, wildlife, seacoast and even a bit about the stars. The hotel itself is very comfortable, with... More

This lodge, located in the middle of beautiful rain forest, near the ocean and on a lake. It couldn't be better. We hiked in the rain in the rainforest .. Fabulous! The host and hostess are "real people" who are truly passionate about what they do and the natural world around them. They take every opportunity to share their knowledge... More

Over recent years of worldwide travelling this reviewer has managed to put into practice that well-worn maxim that "less is more" & has learnt that by trying to do and see more of any particular country or region will achieve relatively little, save for "ticking boxes" on one's travel C.V. On our second visit to New Zealand last month my... More

We were in residence for two nights in this most wonderful wilderness paradise. Very comfortable lodgings, good food. A very personable Ann Saunders (co- director) who saw to every detail, including tasty short bread cookies. The down side here is Dr. Gerry Mc Sweeney (actually PHD) who greeted us with: "Oh, Americans - use short words and speak slowly." One... More
