We arrived late on a rainy night so we couldn't see much. The room was very nice and comfortable. What a lovely surprise in the morning when we awoke at sunrise to find we were practically on the beach! We walked down the beach a bit and even came upon a seal sleeping in the grass. The owner was friendly... More

Cannot help thinking about this place. We did not stay at the motel itself as the rooms were booked. But the owner was nice enough to offer us a house just beside the motel. It has 3 rooms and one ensuite toilet. It is older than the motel but is well taken care of. The rooms did not have cupboards/... More

We absolutely loved the Catlins, and this charming place enhanced our brief stay. Though called a "motel," you have the feel of a B and B with wonderfully friendly proprietors. The room is beautifully appointed with a gorgeous view of the bay - it's immaculate and first rate in all ways. Not to mention Hector dolphins right outside the window,... More

One of the very best places we stayed in 4 weeks in NZ. Truly wonderful room - loads of space; beautifully presented - and the view ... we could have spent days looking at the sea. We really regretted only staying one night and we were a bit unlucky with the weather so didn't see the dolphins ... however we... More

We had a lovely stay here, the rooms are huge and modern with a kitchenette and the views out the patio doors from our room on porpoise bay were stunning. We watched the dolphins surfing in the waves. The addition of a public telephone and wifi would be a benefit. If you're staying in Curio Bay this is the place... More

If your looking for a place to get away and relax this would be the place. We booked for 6 adults and got 2 studio apartments with fully equipped kitchens, and a room off of one of the apartments with 2 single beds. Both units had huge windows looking out to the beach. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and everyone... More

The view outside is great with the beach at your doorstep. All you have to do is walk out onto the patio, and what separates you from the beach is a path through 1m of shrubs. Hector dolphins were swimming in the bay when we were there in summer. We could see them there but not clearly as we did... More

A beautifully appointed, extremely clean accommodation place. All this and you step out your sliding door and all that is between you and the beach is some grass and beach plants. The view is stunning and so relaxing. We weren't there at the right time for the dolphins but Val said that they come into the bay in mid to... More

Curio Bay Salthouse was our favorite places to stay on the south island!! A welcoming note was on our door when we arrived as well as milk in the refrigerator. The view of the bay is AWESOME! Just outside our room was a sea lion rolling in the sand. We've never been so close to a sea animal in the... More

Stayed here two nights with parents in a spacious comfy unit with spectacular views over the bay. Great location only short distance from penguins and petrified forest, and a quiet relaxing spot. Clean and comfortable with a great host. We were well looked after and enjoyed every minute of our stay. Would recommend this motel to anyone and it exceeded... More
