Received a warm welcome from our hosts on arrival. The balcony room is excellent with really good views of the countryside. Hosts were able to prepare an excellent meal taking account of dietary requirements and were excellent company all evening. Relaxed breakfast with no feeling that you were being hurried along Definitely go back - and take my friends! Tip... More

We stayed in the Balcony room which was absolutely beautiful, sitting on the balcony with a morning brew looking out onto the fantastic scenery was nothing short of serene. Karen and David are absolutely lovely hosts, very welcoming and every meal we had was a delight. If you are looking for a formal hotel then this is not the place... More

The Surroundings are Gorgeous. Beautiful Countryside. The House is old school and full of interesting things, there are friendly chickens outside as well as dogs and cats. And all this is only eclipsed by the hospitality shown by Karen and David. Evening Meals are excellent, like having a dinner party at a friends. I can not recommend this little Gem... More

We stayed here for one night on 22nd April. It's a unique experience. The review below about sums it up but I would like to echo the comments about the owners Karen and David being excellent hosts. We had never met Karen before but within a few minutes we were relaxed and felt like we had known her for years.... More

We spent two nights over Easter at Manoir de Gourlay, which was very reasonably priced indeed. We did not expect a five star hotel - and we didn't get one - but we got a unique and fabulous time. We arrived tired and in need of a stiff drink after a stressful few weeks at work for both of us.... More

We all enjoyed the ambience of the old manor-house and Karen certainly made us welcome when we arrived, offering drinks as we sat outside in the evening sunshine. If you are totally relaxed and don't mind what time you get to bed then you will probably love this place, particularly Karen's endless chat and story-telling. However, we were quite tired... More

Four of us stayed there last New Year (2007). We had such a brilliant time we returned this year with four more friends. The hospitality, warmth , fun and wonderful food you get staying here is fantastic value for money. Yes, they have 3 cats and a dog but none of them bother you unless you want them to and... More

We returned to Manoir for what must be the 4th or 5th time to commemorate Armistice day at the Somme. We arrived tired and stressed and left a few days later relaxed and refreshed. This is the magic Karen and David can instil. Karen is a wonderful hostess, making you feel so welcome it is almost like home from home.... More

Having visitng the Manoir last August on the recommendation of friends I had a fabulous time so took 5 friends back there for 2 nights. The Manoir's 'Rustic Charm' instantly relaxes you and David and Karen are the best hosts one could hope for. It was like going to stay with old friends even though we had only met once... More

I think David and Karen love their "jobs" as they do it so well! I stayed one night with my three young boys as the last stop on our way back to London, and it made a lovely end to our journey. We shared a hearty meal with the family (which Karen checked with me ahead of time), enjoyed a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Set in the Somme valley in beautiful natural grounds, manicured lawns and formal gardens, the Manoir de Gourlay was built in the 16th and 17th centuries with evident characteristics of both periods: in the more recent past it was occupied by the British and the Germans in both World War 1 and World War 2 (the original engraved graffiti can be seen on the walls). To stay here is to encounter French life on a rather gracious level in a way that is almost unchanged since the turn of the 20th century; such is Karen and David's uncanny ability to preserve this lovely old house and its history. ... more   less
