Great place to relax and enjoy the beach. Good food, fresh fish and decent accommodation at a reasonable price, by Nicaraguan standards, if you are a backpacker. The Chef, Jacqueline, cooks a marvellous steamed red snapper. Be sure to ask for it. Lots of birds and nature to enjoy. It was always a pleasure to go out on the beach... More

I stayed a week at Rancho Esperanza in late April early May.I had a very relaxing stay. The grounds are spacious and the vibe is mello. The homemade food was very good, and also this is the closest establishment to town if you want to eat out.The beds were very comfortable and the dorms and cabins had plenty of fans. The surf board rentals... We were given a flier in Chinandega market advertising "big comfy bed" and ocean view. Once you get to Jiquilillo, you do not have much choice and you cannot go anywhere else! Well, the cabins are pretty expensive and have bad beds with no views! More

I had a few days of work and decided to take the trip up to Jiquilillo. I spent time on trip advisor reading the reviews to compare Rancho Esperanza and Tranquilo. Was a tricky choice as I didn't know the area, but on the basis that I liked the fact they run projects to work with the community, I plumed... More

My girlfriend and I wanted to stay here first but the bus dropped us off at Tranquilo down the road. After two nights at the other place, Esperanza was a breath of fresh air. The cabins were simple with comfy beds, clean and well spaced on a huge piece of property making it private and quiet. There was the largest... More

a beautiful location, lovely small fishing village, beautiful beach staff friendly but we felt something lacking food delicious but were out of most things and prices were high had a private bath and that was fine but common baths and showers neglected and pretty scary shows a lot of promise and could be ideal for babyboomers on the move and... I loved this spot on the Pacific coast, just a couple hours from Leon via local buses. It's low-key, offers both dorm beds or private cabanas, and you can buy basic but tasty breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Do try the red snapper (fresh!) if it's available. There's no "bar" here (go up the road for that) but there's plenty of... More

One of the best locations I've been to during my 6 weeks traveling through Nicaragua. The rancho is pretty basic but that's part of what makes it so nice and there's all you need. The food is delicious and healthy and prepared with love. The staff is really friendly and helpful and they seem to be really happy to work... More

too many regulations. too uncool host. too far away from the beach. too bright security lights at night. too pretentious when it comes to engagement. too much like a business. too conservative. i did not like it all. i strongly advise all the more special people to go to the other place on that beach. I wish I'd known about this place before I began traveling to Nicaragua - it was by far the best place I visited. First about the location: I was hoping to find an uncrowded beach with good surfing to stay for a few weeks and this was definititly the place. I went to Playa Madras and it was great but... More
