We stayed for one night and had a meal in the Restaurant which was lovely, the food was excellent and the menu was very original and inventive. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and comfortable. We cant wait to visit again More

Five of us went for a meal in March and had a lovely time. The restaurant was fairly quiet so it was a little akward to be in a bigger group (everyone else were in quiet two's) but as we were in the corner of the room we were out of the way. The setting of the restaurant is really... More

We're very pleased to read that you had a lovely time when you came to the hotel for a meal. Paper menus allow us some flexibility to make changes depending on what's available, particularly with regard to our fresh seafood. From your comments it would appear that the service was unobtrusive, which is what we're aiming for. Some guests want... More

As a Shetland resident, I've had many fine meals in Shetland but by far and away the best eating out experience I've ever had was on Saturday night at the Scalloway Hotel. The food and wine were excellent and were more than matched by superlative service. It clearly matters to the staff ( and to the owners, who formed part... More

Myself and party stayed here on the 28/01/12 due to weather delays at Scatsta, and in all fairness the staff had very little prior notice of our visit. However they rose to the occasion, and made us very welcome, great bar, superb evening meal, and very comfortable rooms, it may be a 2 star hotel, the service is anything but.... More

Thanks very much for your positive feedback. We're delighted that you enjoyed your short stopover with us. We're aiming to provide a good service for our guests whether you're staying for a night or a month. Glad you found the meal to your liking. We're currently undertaking a rolling programme of redecorating and modernising our rooms, and hope that once... More

First impression of the hotel is very friendly and dated. Step into your icebox, sorry room and you smell the musty stench. The sheepskin rug on the bed is probably a lovely touch for the tourists but do they need to be crusty?? The dust on the wardrobe and on the TV holder wasn't very appealing either. At £70 for... Oh dear. We seem to have failed miserably with this particular guest. We're very sorry that both the bedroom and the dining room were cold. We have reminded our staff that it's vitally important, particularly at this time of year, to ensure that the heating is on before guests arrive. We are a 2 star hotel and make no pretense... More

As a regular visit to Shetland, often frustrated at indifferent service, food from a freezer and tired rooms, Peter MacKenzie and his team are in the process of creating something quite different: a place of quality, with food to excite foodies, rooms being invested in and a warm, friendly bar. A breath of fresh air. Slept like a log in... More

The Scalloway Hotel is located in the very small village of Scalloway. The view from our room was very nice and the village is very quiet (there are no other restaurants nor hotels in the village). Anyway the hotel is quite old and maybe needs some updates but do it's work properly. The restaurant of the hotel is probably the... More

Stayed there for one night only (sadly). Having read mixed reviews of the hotel we still fancied staying there for our last 2011 night in Shetland. We were delighted. Our room looked out over the bay so the view was beautiful and the room was very comfortable. Dinner was superb, as was the breakfast. The staff were all very efficient... More
