My wife, 2 young daughters and I stumbled across Tarata in January of this year - I returned in April for a dedicated week of fishing. This place is just sensational; there's no other way to put it. There's the extraordinay scenery, the wide selection of kid/family friendly activities (scenic rafting, feeding the animals, "magic carpet rides" to name a... More

A great family trip! The views are breathtaking, the accomidations are cozy, the food is wonderful and the hospitality was beyond incredible! Rafting down the Rangitikei River was gorgeous. We had a great time fishing and exploring as a family. Traveling with 2 children (10 & 7),everyone made us feel right at home. The children were constantly entertained with the... More

Tarata fishaway consistently delivers beyond expections. We love the River Retreat accommodation. Its perched on the edge of the magnificent Rangitikei River gorge. The only sounds are birds and the river below. I took a short walk to the river and caught three trout in an hour. Then back for a BBQ dinner followed by a soak in the hot... More

We spent 4 days at Tarata Lodge recently - a friend and her children and me and mine. The Lodge had plenty of room for the nine of us, and although others have talked about the great meals they provide, with those numbers we took our own food as the tree house has a good kitchen. The venue - high... More

We were so lucky to spend 5 nights in The Tree House over Xmas , if you can appreciate Trudi , Steve and the families tireless work at making this special place work then you will not be disappointed at all. If you add in some rafting and fishing then you are really getting an experience that will remain with... More

We stayed in the River Retreat for one night as part of the River Valley Lodge 'lodge to lodge' rafting trip and we would have happily stayed longer! The space is clean, cosy, private and has spectacular views over the Rangitikei river. Steve and Trudi are knowledgable and entertaining. I would love to bring my family here for a few... More

went here on a great deal with a voucher. I would never have known about this gem, tucked away about 30 kms from Taihape off the main road towards gravity canyon. We had the river retreat...a wonderful hideaway..very private and comfortable. Full kitchen (although the oven could use a good clean!), bathroom and a spa tub for two in the... More

We were given a voucher to stay here when we got married, we finally made it a year later. It was well worth it, the location is like no other, spectacular views of the beautiful Rangitikei River. We arrived mid afternoon, hopped into the spa, relaxed and just soaked up the view. The deck is amazing, I took some wine... More

Truly wonderful accommodation situated at the top of the canyon with stunning views of the Rangitikei River. Steve and Trudi are truly wonderful hosts. Recommend the full day rafting and wilderness fishing down 14km of pristine clear flowing river. Superb sight fishing with the dry fly, Steve works hard to give you the best chance of catching a hard fighting... More
