I will echo an earlier review ....Best holiday of my life!! Kaishu is an onsen resort located up on a cliff by the sea and all the hotel rooms and villas face the sea. Once you enter the resort, you leave your shoes at the entrance and you can walk around barefoot or in socks indoors or in slippers provided... More

If you're looking for a small home stay onsen ryokan, Kaishu is not your choice. It's an onsen hotel with many rooms all with excellent view of the Pacific. The room is comfy & spacous, yet like the meals they offered, not much character nor being impressive. They offer free noodles from 10pm-11:30pm which really is a highlight of an... More

Very tranquil hotel with perfect ocean view. rooms are with terraces and forest/sea view with small natural bath also. Very nice natural baths, also individual ones for couples and families. I didn't wanted to leave.

Very beautiful ocean view! Rooms are clean and tidy and spacious. Very comfortable and peaceful. This is more like a hotel than a ryokan therefore, you don't get much contact with the staff except during check-in/out or collecting your shoes. Staff were friendly but check-in was a long queue and we missed seeing the sun set as a result. Food... More

I have stayed in other hot spring hotels of this chain and I have to say Kaishu doesn't quite measure up to the others. Pros: - lovely view from hotel room and mixed bath - relatively close to tore tore ichiba which is a must go - price relatively cheaper - very spacious room Cons: - hotel a little bit... More

I found the place satisfactory in general but too touristy and impersonal, perhaps due to the fact that this is a big hotel rather than a traditional ryokan. The reception staff were polite but not exactly welcoming. Service was slow and limited understanding of English meant that very little information about meals and hotel facilities were given. My request for... More

This is a beautiful hotel located on the rocky coast of Shirahama, about 15 minutes from the train station by taxi. It is very Japanese in design and feel. The exterior landscaping is yet immature, so it has some catching up to do with the facilities. Even the hallways are covered by tatami mats, so your shoes are kept for... More

I stayed here for two nights by myself. Got in quite late the first night but immediately got into the ryokan/onsen experience, it's hard not to. The design is really sharp modern but with traditional feel. You can basically show up with nothing but yourself and everything else is taken care of. They provide a range of yukata you can... More

Environment - modern and yet preserving the Japanese style of living with tatami and wood right from the entrance. Very warm feeling. Cleaniness - most impressed! Walked bare-footed and yet we hardly felt a tint of dust on the floor. Breakfast and dinner - princely meals! Too much for us girls. We could not even finish breakfast. As a result,... More
