Ekoin is a temple lodge run by a bunch of young monks. The temple is well maintained and clean, and there is even a little Onsen bath (hot spring bath). The accomodation fee includes vegetaria dinner and breakfast, which are both very good quality and tasty. At 6.30 am there is a morning ceremonly in the main temple room followed... More

I stayed for one night in March. It was my second visit to Koyasan and my first to Eko in but I will definitely be back. The room and food were excellent. The cemetery tour at night is a must. I was also grateful for free wifi as my rental wifi router did not work on the mountain.

Loved staying at the Eko-In. Everyone was friendly and engaging and we learned so much staying there. We pre-booked the free calligraphy, meditation, attended morning prayers and the fire ceremony. Also did the night cemetery walk (extra fee 1500 yen per person but well worth it). Our room was beautiful and opened out onto the garden. Food was best of... More

This was a unique experience. Monks run the temple. They are there to pray and study. They also run the accommodation and look after the guests. My room was clean and beautifully situated. Good points: the food was very unusual and I really enjoyed it. Watching the early morning fire ceremony was very interesting. The onsen is great. Bad points:... More

Overall Eko-in temple was a real highlight of our trip to Japan - Of course it isn't going to be a 5 Star hotel and you aren't going to spend the entire day with the monks, but we thought it was a fantastic experience which was very worthwhile The temple itself was really beautiful with lovely gardens and very conveniently... We selected this temple lodging based on recommendations given by the Japanese Guest Houses since many of the younger monks speak English and for us it was a definite plus. We opted for the Ryokan (Japanese style room) with the private bathroom. Eko-in is a traditional Buddhist Temple and one of the oldest temples on Mount Koya. We enjoyed "Shojin-Ryori"... More

I stayed here for one night in April. One night really wasn't enough time to fully enjoy the temple experience, although the early-morning fire ceremony was worthwhile. As far as overnight accommodations go, the temple is a large complex with guest rooms throughout. I left my shoes at the door and wore sandals in the hallways. My room was large,... More

The location of this shukubo (temple lodging) is really great - close to main Koyasan attraction as well as the city centre. The rooms are japanese style (tatami and futons) with shared bath rooms. The meals are served in dining areas and they are vegetarian, but really delicious. This temple has an indoor hot baths - which is great thing... More

Stayed here for a night with my cousins. This was our first stop after we arrived in Japan early April 2013. The staff that check us in was very friendly with good English skills. Wi-fi was only available at the main building. Our room were at another building and they put us on the second floor and the window of... More

Getting to Mt Koyasan was a treat - wonderfull views and a mini advnture in it's own right. The temple is one of many which line the main road through the town. The accomodation was loveley - Paper screens, a verranda with a couple of chairs and nice views over to the woods. We had the priviate room option. The... More
