this is our second time in Nozawa staying at Kiriya. The hospitality that Ko and her family has shown to us made this place stand out from the rest. We had 2 little kids, they really enjoyed the lobby area , reading books and playing with the cat. Amazing small ski town that is great to explore, great food at... More

I have to do this review in point form because I’ll run out of room because I have so much to rave about! - Five star hospitality - nothing was too much trouble, always around to help - Traditional style – beats luxury hotels hands down anyday. The décor is traditional Japanese, and even someone like me with a “seen... More

I can only agree with all the praise in previous reviews and thank Ko and the rest of the staff for the warmest of welcomes and a most enjoyable visit. Ko is a gold mine of information and advice! We took her advice to leave our skis at the gondola base rather than carrying them up each morning - although... More

A great way to experience a bit of Japanese living. Leave your room to go out for dinner and when you get back your beds have been made up on the floor. Again go to breakfast and they have disappeared. You soon get used to the no shoes policy and it helped to bring a disposable pair of slippers, the... More

As my title states, the Owner/Operator Ko, does nothing less than a 5 Star job in making sure that her customers are looked after! We felt like we were the only people staying there at times, but it was easy to notice that Ko does this for everyone! Along with being a great location in regards to access to the... More

We cannot recommend this beautiful ryokan highly enough. The service before and during our stay was excellent. The owners go above and beyond what we ever expected - helping with directions, printing off maps, mending clothes and cleaning our muddy boots - all with a huge smile! We went for the breakfast and dinner package and overall the food was... More

We would definitely return to Kiriya ryokan. It is beautifully decorated with historic Japanese artifacts, including an entire samurai "warrior" in armour who seemed to guide me to our room each afternoon as I stumbled in after the exertions of skiing. Ko, our hostess, provided outstanding service, booking taxis from Haneda airport, booking rentals at St Anton, selling discount lift... More

This was our third stay here over 4 years....the first time we were just about the only Western guests....obviously the good reviews have worked...the ryokan is now just about full of western guests...while still providing an overall Japanese ryokan experience. This room was basically a suite with large basin area near toilet and entry way followed by living area and... More

I have stayed at the Kiriya Ryokan four times since 2004. It's a nice family run establishment, kind of kitch mixed in with a family vibe that's non-intrusive but very helpful at the same time. Location: A short up hill walk to the 'U-Road' (Big escalator) which takes you to the bottom of the ski runs. Easy access to walk... More

Our family had a wonderful stay at Kiriya. The traditional family room was very beautiful and spacious. The location was perfect to get to the snow fields. The best aspect of our stay was our host Ko. She was so helpful and friendly, my only regret is that we didn't stay longer!
