Clean air, clear water, fresh food, good manner... Nozawa Onsen is a beautiful village. We were there in January 2012 and the snow conditions were incredible. Ko runs Kiriya Ryokan and is the perfect host. She always seems to be available and nothing is too much trouble. Kiriya is very comfortable and is in a great location being only a very short walk to the moving Yu Road... More

My mother, brother and I spent 7 nights at Kiriya Ryokan, and had an amazing time. Nozawa-onsen is truly magical. The skiing was sublime and we had fantastic weather. I am vegan and the chef went to great trouble to accomodate for me, the meals were great and I was so excited to have authentic Japanese food. Apart from being... More

We stayed at the Kirya Ryokan just after New Year for 10 days skiing. Apart from an amazing village and awesome snow the accommodation was excellent. The location was probably the best in the village and 5-10 minute walk to ski lifts (boots and skis were stored where we hired skis on slope). Ko, who manages the ryokan was very... More

2 minutes from the u-road which whisks you up to the ski-fields each morning, and right in the cutest part of the village - next to the outdoor village onsen and surrounded by little bars and shops. Ko is, as everyone says, amazing: manages to give the full ryokan feeling of hospitality and being her personal guest without being at... More

Traveled here with my wife and 2 kids (9 and 13) pre-xmas 2011 for a ski holiday with decidedly Japanese feel. Loaded with free public onsen in beautiful old wooden building - its one of the nicest places we went to on this trip. The town is amazingly picturesque, especially as the snow began to fall - filled with classic... More

This was our second visit to Kiriya and it was like coming home. Ko San runs the ryokan which has been in her famTraditional Ryokan with futon and tatami style rooms, but the rooms we select have a full bathroom and a small western annexe area with small coffee table and chairs. Lovely real onsen complete with sulphur fumes to... More

My family (husband and 9 yr old daughter and self) have just spent 9 lovely nights at Kiriya. This was our second trip to Japan, but first to Nozawa, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the warmth of Ko's hospitality combined with the authentic ryokan experience to make our stay truly memorable. It was our daughter's birthday whilst we visited, and... More

My family and I stayed here for 5 nights over the Christmas period, 2011 and had an exceptional holiday. The gardens covered in snow are beautiful, the traditional tatami guestrooms with big, fluffy doonas and futons are comfortable, the traditional breakfasts and dinners are delicious. My children (11 & 13) loved sampling the traditional foods. But the highlight of our... More

Stayed in a traditional room which had delightfully comfortable bedding. The lady in charge, Ko, was exceptionally helpful, spoke excellent English and anticipated all our requirements. We were there for a skiing holiday and the hotel had great drying facilities for ski gear. Only a short walk to the moving carpet to gain access to ski slopes. Lovely traditional village.... More
